Abstract
This
article
argues
for
more
research
on
neighborhoods.
Concern
about
neighborhood
change,
especially
gentrification,
has
mounted
in
cities
throughout
the
world.
Not‐in‐My‐Backyard
versus
Yes‐in‐My‐Backyard
(YIMBY)
battles
over
local
housing
proposals
have
intensified.
Meanwhile,
people
around
world
are
spending
time
their
neighborhoods
than
they
did
previously,
due
to
greater
flexibility
work
from
home.
But
despite
increased
public
focus
neighborhoods,
I
argue
that
real
estate
economists
not
paying
enough
attention.
Although
many
produced
excellent,
even
pathbreaking,
trajectories
of
and
importance
shaping
life
outcomes,
scholars
or
metros
as
unit
analysis,
ignoring
within‐city
variation,
those
who
look
within
often
treat
fixed
effects
absorb
unobserved
without
giving
much
thought
what
it
is
happening
inside
black
box
interesting
puzzling
ever,
significant
our
lives,
new
data
enhance
ability
analyze
them.
Specifically,
lay
out
seven
key
reasons
study
them
now.
