Improving solar availability in urban blocks is vital to promoting energy conservation and emissions reduction. However, there are very few studies on the impact of block morphology high-density cities based particularities climate resources severe cold regions at higher latitudes. This study took 434 models generated through seven orientation conditions 62 residential Harbin, China, as its research object. Through numerical simulations statistical analysis, it revealed quantitative relationship between active photovoltaic thermal collector technologies passive heating technologies. The results show that technology has highest multi-story enclosed blocks, multi-high-level mixed-row type. south façade building greatest availability. overall significantly negatively correlated with mean height, floor area ratio, volume ratio; positively site coverage standard deviation height. Controlling block’s 15° by west east can increase façade. provides a reference evaluation basis for sustainable planning design severely regions.
