Regional comprehensive transportation infrastructures constitute the fundamental basis for development of inland urban agglomerations. To elucidate role in shaping spatial organization and expansion agglomerations, this study takes Yangtze River Middle Reaches Urban Agglomeration (YRMRUA) as a case example. It examines relationships between network layout patterns using fractal dimension based on traffic accessibility, traffic-weighted linear density, Pearson correlation analysis. The key findings are follows: (1) YRMRUA exhibits partial growth pattern influenced by development, which indicates that has significant but limited impact YRMRUA. (2) There is moderate density intensity within (3) Specific groups such Wuhan–Ezhou–Huanggang–Huangshi group, Changsha–Zhuzhou–Xiangtan Nanchang–Yichun group have formed areas where at forefront. (4) Different modes transportation, including waterway railway road varying effects expansion. integration these forms framework
