Arthrospira , Spirulina and Limnospira are cyanobacteria widely known as food supplements or additives cultivated worldwide under the commercial name of spirulina. Many studies have been focused on improvement operational conditions for optimizing cell growth harvesting. At present, greater attention is paid to obtaining a good-quality, possibly food-grade, product that can be added different formulations reducing environmental impact by saving water avoiding minimizing release mineral salts in environment. A few addressed these aspects although, most cases, through laboratory experiments pilot plants. This study effects medium recycling, monitored at each harvesting step, nutrient replenishment platensis growth, biomass, biochemical composition, extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) production, production plant located temperate zone (northeastern Italy). Four out seven largest ponds (11,000 L each) were followed three-month semi-continuous cultivation, which included period with highest biomass productivity. Recycling culture after harvest effectively allowed best nutritional status cells. Biomass productivity increased from June August 2023 (mean values: 0.029 0.038 g -1 d 25–26 °C 27–29 °C, respectively). Protein, polysaccharides, C-phycocyanin contents 62, 22, 12%, respectively, while EPS was < 7 mg . The composition did not vary during cultivation period, differently previous performed small volumes short time.
