Heat pumps will play an important role in improving the performance of industrial processes aiming to decarbonize their heating requirements. Yet, defining best operating conditions those devices may be a challenging task, as they are embedded larger energy conversion systems and direct competition with fired electric heaters other waste heat recovery systems. The costs inputs also influence selection either pump or gas boiler, which affects overall efficiency incremental cost final solution. Thus, systematic analysis must applied order determine option supply requirement, without considerably impacting operational feasibility plant. In this work, base-case two applications intensive demand, namely, solvent regeneration process carbon capture unit black liquor concentration kraft pulp mill, compared that scenarios high temperature mechanical vapor recompression integrated, reduce consumption environmental impact. benefits integration over conventional reboiler multiple effect evaporation system discussed light thermodynamic, economic indicators. As result, alternative approaches remain competitive vis-à-vis solutions terms costs. addition, emissions associated could reduced by 45% if is integrated. optimized solution using has exergy 9% higher typical configuration ammonia mills, slightly scenario system.
