Introduction Sleep quality has a significant impact on the health-related of life, particularly among college students. This study proposes framework for identifying factors that influence students’ sleep quality, including stress, self-control, bedtime habits, and neighborhood environment. Methods The employed cross-sectional analytical approach convenience sample 255 medical students from private university in China during 2021/2022 academic year, which 80.39% (205) were women. Two complementary methodologies, partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), fuzzy sets qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), utilized study. Results results PLS-SEM suggest Stress Self-control act as mediating variables model, with Bedtime habits Neighborhood environment influencing through these variables. Additionally, fsQCA reveals can combine Self-control, respectively, to quality. Discussion These findings provide insight into how multiple factors, such Stress, environment, be used develop intervention programs aimed at improving it. Moreover, use both methodologies enables expansion new methodological approaches applied different contexts.
