Abstract Wearable sleep trackers are increasingly used in applied psychology. Particularly, the recent boom fitness tracking industry has resulted a number of relatively inexpensive consumer-oriented devices that further enlarge potential applications ambulatory monitoring. While being largely positioned as wellness tools, wearable could be considered useful health supported by growing independent peer-reviewed studies evaluating their accuracy. The inclusion sensors monitor cardiorespiratory physiology, diurnal activity data, and other environmental signals allows for comprehensive multidimensional approach to its impact on psychological well-being. Moreover, common combination experience sampling methods uncover within-individual processes linking daily experiences, behaviors, psychosocial factors. Here, we provide concise overview state-of-the-art, challenges, opportunities using sleep-tracking technology Specifically, review key device profiles, capabilities, limitations. By providing representative examples, highlight how scholars practitioners can fully exploit while aware most critical pitfalls characterizing these devices. Overall, consumer recognized valuable method investigate, assess, improve health. Incorporating such research professional practice might significantly quantity quality collected information opening possibility involving large samples over time periods. However, rigorous informed use is necessary.

Abstract Sleep monitoring has become widespread with the rise of affordable wearable devices. However, converting sleep data into actionable change remains challenging as diverse factors can cause combinations parameters to differ both between people and within over time. Researchers have attempted combine improve detecting similarities nights sleep. The cluster similar from a night defines that night’s phenotype. To date, quantitative models phenotype made collected large populations used cross-sectional data, which preclude longitudinal analyses could better quantify differences individuals In reported here, we five million test (a) whether an individual’s changes time (b) these elucidate new information about acute periods illness (e.g., flu, fever, COVID-19). We found evidence for 13 phenotypes associated quality transition Patterns transitions significantly (i) (with vs. without chronic health condition; chi-square test; p -value < 1e−100) (ii) (before during Chi-Square 1e−100). Finally, patterns carried more conditions than did membership alone (longitudinal yielded 2–10× much analyses). These results support use temporal dynamics in future development analyses.

The widespread and pervasive use of artificial light at night (ALAN) in our modern 24-hour society has emerged as a substantial disruptor natural circadian rhythms, potentially leading to rise unhealthy lifestyle-related behaviors (e.g., poor sleep; shift work). This phenomenon been associated with an increased risk type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which is pressing global public health concern. However, date, reviews summarizing associations between ALAN T2DM have primarily focused on the limited characteristics exposure intensity) ALAN. literature review extends beyond prior by consolidating recent studies from 2000 2024 regarding both indoor outdoor incidence or prevalence T2DM. We also described potential biological mechanisms through modulates glucose metabolism. Furthermore, we outlined knowledge gaps investigated how various only intensity (including type, timing, duration, wavelength, individual sensitivity) influence risk. Recognizing detrimental impact sleep behavioral correlates physical activity dietary patterns, additionally summarized investigating mediating role each component relationship Lastly, proposed implications chronotherapies chrononutrition for management context exposure.

Abstract Sleep disorders are widespread. Inhaled aromatherapy has shown advantages over medication in treating insomnia. Daylily ( Hemerocallis fulva ) been found to positively affect sleep either by ingestion or inhalation, but there is a lack of research on the aid effect its inhalation route. At present, floral scent characteristics daylily not obvious, and extraction rate essential oil low. Based above problems, this study developed essence which replicates natural aroma plants investigated inhaling activity using Pittsburgh Quality Index (PSQI) electroencephalogram (EEG). According PSQI results, improved participants' subjective quality. The difference between men women was statistically significant p < .05). slow‐wave EEG experimental group significantly stronger than that control .01). Abstract Cultural identity is intersectional: It includes not only race and nationality but also socioeconomic class, occupation, religion, gender, age/generation, life stage. Culture usefully characterized dimensionally. Hofstede identified dimensions of individualism/collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, gender role differentiation, short-term/long-term orientation, indulgence/restraint. Trust in individuals institutions, as well social capital—structural, relational, instrumental, cognitive—moderate the emotional effects stress adversity. clinicians enables effective treatment. The expression depression mediated by cultural communication styles, with their high-context/low-context, direct/indirect, self-enhancing/self-effacing, elaborate/understated. Word choices metaphors—which vary culture—help identify depression, indicate its severity, reveal suicide risk. Details critical for accurate diagnosis treatment can be “lost translation.”

Abstract Current diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD) do not capture the diversity of phenotypes clinically significant depression. Culture can entail suppression, normalization, or concealment symptoms. Clinically depressed people who are “subsyndromal” by MDD often fall in a “middle zone” between normal negative emotion and frank mental illness. Alternative clinical depression proposed that better accommodate cultural differences as well variations personality pathophysiology. Such validate illness whose subsyndromal entails functional impairment, persistent distress, suicide risk.
