Research into magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-visible perivascular spaces (PVS) has recently increased, as results from studies in different diseases and populations are cementing their association with sleep, disease phenotypes, overall health indicators. Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) even in the mild form may result long-lasting post-concussion symptoms. TBI is also a known risk to late-life neurodegeneration. Recent studies suggest that dysfunction glymphatic system, responsible for clearing protein waste from brain, play pivotal role development of dementia following TBI. Given diverse nature TBI, longitudinal investigations are essential comprehending dynamic changes system and its implications recovery. Methods In this prospective study, we evaluated two promising imaging markers, namely enlarged perivascular space (ePVS) burden Diffusion Tensor Imaging-based ALPS index, 44 patients with mTBI at early post-injury time points: approximately 14 days (14Day) 6–12 months (6–12Mon) post-injury, while examining their associations Additionally, 37 controls, comprising both orthopedic healthy individuals, were included comparative analysis. Results Our key findings include: (1) White matter ePVS (WM-ePVS) index exhibit significant correlations age. (2) Elevated WM-ePVS acute significantly linked higher number symptoms, particularly memory problems. (3) The increase chronic phases correlates improvement sleep measures. Furthermore, incorporating phase enhances prediction problems beyond socio-demographic basic clinical information. Conclusion offers distinct values assessing structure activity. Early evaluation function could be crucial understanding recovery developing targeted interventions improve patient outcomes.

ABSTRACT Background and Purpose An association recently emerged between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-visible perivascular spaces (MV-PVS) with intracerebral solute clearance neuroinflammation, in adults. However, it is unknown how MV-PVS change throughout adolescence what factors influence volume morphology. This study assesses the temporal evolution of adolescents young adults, secondarily evaluates relationship MV-PVS, age, sex, body mass index (BMI). Materials Methods analysis included a 783 participant cohort from longitudinal multicenter National Consortium on Alcohol Neurodevelopment Adolescence that involved up to 6 visits spanning 5 years. Healthy aged 12-21 years at entry least two MRI scans were included. The primary outcome was mean (mm 3 /white matter cm ). Results On average, males had greater all ages compared females. A linear mixed-effect model for performed. Mean BMI increases person’s associated over time. In females only, changes correlated volume. One unit increase above average 0.021 mm /cm (p<0.001). Conclusion showed sex differences features during adulthood. Importantly, we report are only. These findings suggest potential link warrants future study.

: Perivascular spaces (PVS) are usually enlarged in small vessel disease (SVD). However, the significance of PVS patterns different locations is uncertain. Hence, we analyzed distribution patients with a recent subcortical infarct (RSSI) and their correlation clinical imaging factors.

The development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is closely associated with the integrity and function perivascular space (PVS). PVS has essential roles in transporting cerebrospinal fluid exchanging intracellular substances necessary to clear metabolic waste from brain. An enlarged (ePVS) now acknowledged as a major factor AD development, thus indicating complex interplay other pathogenic factors. Herein, we present detailed examination imaging features PVS, depicted by various MRI modalities, highlighting how these techniques have advanced understanding pathogenesis. Furthermore, critically assess strengths limitations approaches discuss prospective enhancements that may provide refined insights. Further reveal new diagnostic biomarkers inform targeted therapeutic approaches, improving clinical management for patients AD.

Abstract Increased waste clearance in the brain is thought to occur most readily during late-stage sleep (stage N3). Sleep deprivation disrupts time spent deeper stages, fragmenting process. Here, we have utilized publicly available Stockholm Sleepy Brain Study investigate whether various sleep-related measures are associated with changes perivascular space (PVS) volume fraction following a late-night short-sleep experiment. Our sample consisted of 60 participants divided into old (65-75 years) and young (20-30 age groups. We found that partial was not significantly major PVS changes.
