United States healthcare outcomes, including avoidable mortality rates, are among the worst of high-income countries despite highest spending per capita. While community pharmacies contribute to chronic disease management and preventive medicine, they also offer consumer products that increase risks prevalence cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, depression. To resolve these contradictions, our perspective article describes opportunities for major pharmacy chains (e.g., CVS Pharmacy Walgreens) introduce digital health aisles dedicated prescription over-the-counter therapeutics (DTx), together with mobile apps wearables support self-management, wellness, well-being. We provide an evidence-based rationale replace spaces devoted sugar-sweetened beverages other unhealthy commodities (alcohol, tobacco) may premature death. discuss how can serve as marketing patient education resources, informing customers about commercially available DTx technologies healthy lifestyles. Since practice requires symbiotic balancing between profit margins patient-centered, value-based care, replacing health-harming health-promoting could positively impact prevention well physical mental patients caregivers who visit neighborhood in order pick up medicines.

Sleep tracking by consumers is becoming increasingly prevalent; yet, few studies have evaluated the accuracy of such devices. We sought to evaluate three devices (Oura Ring Gen3, Fitbit Sense 2, and Apple Watch Series 8) compared gold standard sleep assessment (polysomnography (PSG)). Thirty-five participants (aged 20-50 years) without a disorder were enrolled in single-night inpatient study, during which they wore Oura Ring, Fitbit, Watch, monitored with PSG. For detecting vs. wake, sensitivity was ≥95% for all discriminating between stages, ranged from 50 86%, as follows: ring 76.0-79.5% precision 77.0-79.5%; 61.7-78.0% 72.8-73.2%; 50.5-86.1% 72.7-87.8%. Abstract Background Established assessment scales used for Parkinson’s disease (PD) have several limitations in tracking symptom progression and fluctuation. Both research commercial-grade wearables show potential improving these assessments. However, it is not known whether pervasive affordable devices can deliver reliable data, suitable designing open-source unobtrusive around-the-clock Our aim to investigate the usefulness of research-grade wristband Empatica E4, smartwatch Fitbit Sense, Oura ring, PD research. Method The study included participants with ( N = 15) neurologically healthy controls 16). Data were collected using established (Movement Disorders Society Unified Disease Rating Scale, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Screening Questionnaire, Hoehn Yahr Stage), self-reported diary (activities, symptoms, sleep, medication times), 2-week digital data from three simultaneously. analyses comprised steps: preparation (device characteristics assessment, extraction preprocessing), processing (data structuring visualization, cross-correlation analysis, comparison, uptime calculation), evaluation (usability, availability, statistical analyses). Results We found large variation unsatisfactory cross-correlation. Due output incongruences, only heart rate movement could be assessed across devices. E4 Sense outperformed reflecting activities. a weak correlation significant differences. was good, but did record concomitantly. also terms access raw sampling level device-native processing, ease use, retrieval design. graded system usability as poor, middle. Conclusions In this we identified set necessary research: handling, cleaning, retrieval, score calculation transparency, long battery life, sufficient storage, higher frequencies, software hardware reliability, transparency. analyzed are interchangeable and, based on features, none deemed optimal research, they all provide specifications future iterations.

Romantic relationship stress is associated with poor sleep quality, theoretically by threatening belongingness needs. However, it unclear how directly and indirectly impacts quality. This study aims to determine what extent social media use mediates the between romantic objective subjective Longitudinal data comes from 35 emerging adults in relationships who completed online surveys twice daily for 14 consecutive days while wearing Oura rings. The rings captured quality presence of stress. Results revealed that did not mediate quality; however, was predictive poorer increased time spent sleeping. These results prove a stronger independent predictor decrements compared

Ring-trackers are a growing consumer wearable category that provide number of sleep metrics, yet their measurement accuracy remains poorly understood. Previous validation studies have mainly focused on healthy individuals, while significant part the potential present and future value lies in applications non-healthy subjects. To enable research medical applications, rigorous evaluation performance clinical settings against gold-standard polysomnography is needed. address this knowledge gap, we investigated how measurements three commercially available ring trackers (Oura, SleepOn, Circul) perform university lab population with diverse set sleep-related disorders as well sleep-unrelated conditions. We evaluated individual-level group-level discrepancies standard measures conducted an epoch-by-epoch analysis staging classification using standardized framework. While average similar (e.g., TST differences between rings gold were below 12 min for Oura ring), often remained large. Ring-derived metrics characterized by complex bias, indicating correction non-trivial. Sleep/Wake distinction SleepOn reached previously reported individuals (~ 85% accuracy), but was worse Circul 65% accuracy). Sleep stage (Wake, Light, Deep, REM sleep) sensitivity ranged from 0.14 (REM ring) to 0.58 (Light ring). Across all stages, performed similarly (53.18% 50.48% whereas (35.06% Our findings confirm recent descriptions device-related bias additionally uncover practical limitations application real-world laboratory patient cohort. Critically, some devices may demonstrate reasonable agreement PSG average, masks substantial inaccuracies, prohibiting use medicine, accurate assessment individual nights, including both nights exceptionally low or high quality quantity, essential care.

Evidence links night shift work to circadian rhythm disruption, causing hormonal and metabolic alterations, as well increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study investigates whether affects blood glucose variability dysregulation, potentially driven by misalignment. It also examines such disruptions elevate inflammatory markers involved in atherosclerosis contribute the exacerbation of CVD markers. The includes 60 participants: rotating workers (day, evening, shifts) day (controls) at a pharmaceutical plant. We will assess effects on health over three phases: an initial 6-week observational period (phase I), baseline registration factors II), follow-up assessment 2 years III). Phase I registrations include working hours derived from payroll data, sleep metrics OURA ring (actigraphy, plethysmography temperature), continuous assessments using monitor, self-reported food diary measurements (monocyte mRNA expression). In phases II III, inflammation, lipids, glycosylated haemoglobin, D-dimer, clinical examination pressure, resting heart rate, arterial stiffness means carotid femoral pulse wave velocity, intima-media thickness maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O2max) are measured. To this end, comprehensive set methods be used prospective manner provide new knowledge work-induced regulation factors. All participants provided written informed consent prior participating study, which adhere principles outlined Declaration Helsinki. Sleep is critical to athlete health and sport performance. Purpose To evaluate the relationship between objective sleep data next-day basketball game Methods Collegiate men athletes (n = 4) wore smart ring trackers night before games 22). variables included hours of total (TS), rapid eye movement duration (RM), deep (DS), heart rate variability (HRV). Game performance was evaluated using field goal percentage (FG%) player efficiency (EFF). Results TS, RM, DS, HRV demonstrated very weak relationships with FG% ( p > 0.05) EFF 0.05). Individual analysis revealed one exhibited strong moderate correlations for TS-EFF (r 0.67), RS-EFF 0.41), TS-FG% 0.51), RM-FG% 0.67) < metrics had no effect on (R 2 0.025) 0.053) Conclusions suggest a lack group-level associations ring-measured This highlights need individualized monitoring rather than relying solely metrics.
