In the United States, acupuncture education is divided into two primary pathways: medical for licensed physicians and traditional rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) nonphysician practitioners. These pathways reflect distinct educational needs historical development of States. To compare systems, highlighting their strengths, weaknesses, potential integration to enhance patient care. This narrative review utilized comprehensive literature searches, analyzing peer-reviewed articles, institutional reports, accreditation documents. The study focused on programs approved by American Academy Medical Acupuncture accredited Accreditation Commission Herbal Medicine. are shorter emphasize evidence-based practice, allowing integrate conventional treatment. focus Western terminology concepts but may lack depth TCM principles. offer extensive training principles practices, including herbal medicine, with clinical emphasis modern science research-based evidence. There a significant workforce disparity between acupuncturists much smaller number practice. Integrating both can care through treatment approaches. Successful examples demonstrate improved outcomes.
