Nitrification is a key process in the global nitrogen cycle. Aerobic ammonia oxidizers play central role cycle by performing first step of nitrification. Ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and complete (comammox) are dominant nitrifiers environments with low ammonium availability. While AOA have been studied for almost 20 years, comammox were only discovered 8 years ago. Until now, there has gap our understanding whether can co-exist or if one strain would be under ammonium-limiting conditions. Here, we present study characterizing competition between freshwater varying substrate concentrations. Our results will help elucidating niches two lakes.

Agricultural soils are known as nitrous oxide (N2O) sources due to the input of nitrogen (N) fertilizer and livestock faecal excretion. However, few studies have explored responses N2O microbial emission pathways their related functional guilds long-term soil fertilization regimes. This study examined effects four 38-year treatments (control with no-fertilizer (CK); inorganic N (N); manure (M); (MN)) on levels generated from nitrification denitrification, well nitrifiers heterotrophic denitrifiers.
