The determination of dead roots is important for clarifying the roles fine tree in carbon (C) and nutrient cycling forest ecosystems. However, various methods proposed determining variation terminology expressing fine-root mortality can cause significant errors quantifying roots. In this study, we aimed to clarify criteria used sorting using published papers. second aim was identify problems defining border between root litter. Finally, propose future challenges collect data with same standards. We collected 95 papers last 50 years found that visual- touch-based judgments are most commonly many different terms representing state shedding mortality. needs be based on process from death decomposition. accuracy improved by experimentally elucidating decomposition process. It also increase objectivity description when judging a field. Then, if combine multiple introducing new tools such as Automatic Intelligence, mission identifying would possible future.

Abstract To adapt to the complex belowground environment, plants make trade-offs between root resource acquisition and defence ability. This includes forming partnerships with different types of associating microorganisms, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal ectomycorrhizal fungi. These trade-offs, by mediating chemistry, exert legacy effects on nutrient release during decomposition, which may, in turn, affect ability new roots re-acquire resources, thereby generating a feedback loop. However, linkages at basis this potential loop remain largely unquantified. Here, we propose trait-based ‘acquisition-defence-decomposition’ conceptual framework test strength relevant across 90 angiosperm tree species. We show that, plant species level, root-fungal symbiosis gradient within economics space, chemical (condensed tannins), decomposition rate are closely linked, providing support framework. Beyond dichotomy mycorrhizal-dominated versus ectomycorrhizal-dominated systems, suggest continuous shift loops, from ‘high symbiosis-low defence-fast decomposition-inorganic nutrition’ evolutionarily ancient taxa symbiosis-high defence-slow decomposition-organic more modern taxa. provides foundation for testable hypotheses multidimensional species’ strategies ecosystem cycling an evolutionary context.

Contribution of saprolite to the estimation enhanced rock weathering: an exploratory review and a study caseThe American geologist George F. Becker first proposed term "saprolite" in 1895.Its definition encompasses completely weathered rock, which assumes small variations "incipient" volume (isovolumetry), that material is not transported. In chapter this thesis, bibliometric about last 30 years presented, where USA, France, Australia, Brazil China are main countries number publications.Among these countries, only country contributes significantly Earth's Silicate Carbon Sink (SCS).In second chapter, scientometric research on period from 1990 2022 presented. The Southeast region concentrates most research, state Minas Gerais leads publications.Brazil has 2 world's 5 river basins (Amazon Paraná) contribute SCS, but Amazon Basin few studies saprolite. In third section deep regolith originating mafic sill located central-eastern part State São Paulo was characterized. It found saprolithic region, represented by Cr1, Cr2 Cr3, presents abrupt difference its physical, chemical, biological, mineralogical micromorphological attributes. This differentiation portrays inversion predominance between weathering (e.g., physical fragmentation, disappearance lithogenic minerals) pedogenic incorporation organic matter, structure development) processes. In fourth approached as constituting three stages silicate agromineral, serving model for weathering.Nutrient provision, acid neutralization atmospheric carbon sequestration inorganic route were estimated. It observed Ca 2+ fastest released cation while K + maily remained solid phase, agreement with mineralogy present. The potential power 13.15 mole H per kg total capture estimated at 147.34 CO2 t -1 approximately half consumed stage weathering.
