Abstract Cover crops (CC) offer numerous benefits to agroecosystems, particularly in the realm of soil organic carbon (SOC) accrual and loss mitigation. However, uncertainties persist regarding extent which CCs, co‐occurrence with environmental factors, influence SOC responses associated C pools. We therefore performed a weighted meta‐analysis on effects CCs mineral‐associated (MAOC), particulate (POC) microbial biomass (MBC) pool compared no CC cultivation arable cropland. Our study summarized global research comparable management, focus climatic zones representative Europe, such as arid, temperate boreal climates. In this meta‐analysis, we included 71 independent studies from 61 articles published between 1990 June 2023 several scientific grey literature databases. Sensitivity analysis was conducted did not identify any significant publication bias. The results revealed that had an overall statistically positive effect pools, increasing MAOC by 4.8% (95% CI: 0.6%–9.4%, n = 16), POC 23.2% 13.9%–34.4%, 39) MBC 20.2% 11.7%–30.7%, 30) top soil, cultivation. Thereby, feed into stable well more labile dependent clay content initial concentration, whereas influenced moderators peak experiment duration. For MBC, for example, content, crop rotation duration tillage depth were identified important drivers. Based our pools moderators, needs. The compaction of soil by agricultural machinery has seriously affected the sustainable development agriculture. Tracked combine harvesters are widely used around world; however, frequent rolling causes irreversible soil. In this study, a tracked harvester traveling test was carried out in order to clarify mechanism and influence on compaction. effects multiple at depth 0–30 cm were studied when body traveled speeds 0.27 m/s, 0.48 0.95 m/s. results showed that dynamic load could penetrate into least 30 cm, non-linear relationship between pressure obtained. peak 3.14 4.19 times higher than average pressure, response fluctuated significantly self-excited vibration formed beating phenomenon soil, signal very penetrating paddy

Abstract The carbon cycle in soil is significantly influenced by microbes. To investigate the vertical distribution of dominant groups agricultural and metabolic diversity bacteria, 45 samples from 0 ~ 50 cm layer Hunan tobacco–rice multiple cropping farmland were collected November 2017, bacterial community, community composition physical chemical properties determined. results showed that capabilities functional decreased with depth. three most widely used sources for bacteria carbohydrates, amino acids, polymers. surface (such as Chloroflexi, Acidobacteriota, Bacteroidota) positively correlated metabolism intensity. alkali-hydrolysable nitrogen content, bulk density carbon–nitrogen ratio key factors driving differences communities different layers.

Soil aggregates are important for soil fertility and earthworms can support aggregate formation stability during gut passage, burrowing activity secretion of polysaccharides. To determine these effects in different tillage systems, properties, the earthworm community associated with Lumbricus terrestris (Linnaeus, 1758) were evaluated two long-term field experiments using plough, cultivator, or no-till. The aim was to investigate populations on evaluate three methods, namely: water stable (WSA) index, MOULDER (formerly SLAKES) SlakeLight. WSA method wet-sieves 3 min distilled records mass dispersed aggregates. uses a smartphone application measure an increase area submerged slaking, while SlakeLight analyses light transmission corresponding covered by material. samples collected autumn at levels: i) middens, ii) 5 cm radius around burrows L. (burrow-midden-complex), iii) bulk without terrestris. All hand-searched air-dried analyses. hypothesis tested that there is gradient worked soil, such level away from burrow decreases so that: midden > burrow-midden-complex soil. Total abundance (individuals level−1 ± standard deviation), mostly endogeic earthworms, 3-times higher (4.3 2.7) than cultivator doubled under ploughing regime (3 2.1), no-till only slightly increased (4.6 2). With rising numbers, increased, effect burrow-midden-complex. At both sites, identified more middens other methods not discriminating their outcomes middens. However, sensitive interactions × showed ploughed stabilised most increasing activity. Comparison all be used earthworm-processed but selection should depend research questions resource availability.
