Effects of soil tillage practices on soil conservation in pasture-based integrated management systems: a case study on steep slopes in southeastern Brazil

Conservation

integrated
systems
offer
a
viable
strategy
for
restoring
degraded
pastures
on
slopes.
This
study
evaluated
the
short-term
(2
years)
impacts
of
soil
types
and
young
silvopastoral
hydrophysical
properties,
CO2
emissions
erosion
processes
in
38%
sloping
area
following
pasture
renovation.
Three
management
(full-sun
pasture;
system
with
eucalyptus
or
gliricidia)
were
alongside
three
(downhill
ploughing
disc
plough;
contour
mouldboard
no-tillage).
The
results
revealed
that
led
to
bulk
density
penetration
resistance
reductions
up
85%
compared
no-tillage.
decrease
was
associated
increased
total
porosity
(particularly
macroporosity),
resulting
enhanced
water
infiltration
rates
(up

76.5%).
However,
disturbance

environmental

erosion-prone
