Environmentally friendly carbon-based aerogels have been regarded as effective adsorbents and/or absorbents for the removal of water-soluble contaminants and extraction leaking organic solvents. A practical facile method was proposed preparing amino-functionalized activated carbon/graphene (KAC-GA@N) with a highly porous structure good hydrophilicity, wherein microbubble technology, one-step freezing process (−18 °C 6 h), two-step hydrothermal reduction (85 120 °C), amino-functionalization (in ammonium citrate solution (60 mg/mL)) were employed. Our preparation strategy provided it extraordinary chemical mechanical stability. It can be used an excellent adsorbent different pollutants. Moreover, KAC-GA@N had better affinity toward cationic dye (methylene blue, MB) than anionic (methyl orange, MO) (183.73 mg/g vs 88.31 at equilibrium), showing capability selectively separating ionic dyes. Its batch adsorption could well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model Langmuir isotherm model. The fixed-bed dynamical adsorption–desorption cycle experiments proved application potential (about 88.2% MB 39.7% MO separately trapped first filtration) reusability KAC-GA@N. possible mechanism discussed in detail. higher absorption capacity rate various aerogel efficiently addresses recycling issue powdery carbon particles shows strong use water treatment
