Abstract The development of artificial intelligence has presented new opportunities and challenges for language education. Using techniques such as automatic speech recognition generative intelligence, conversational chatbots have been integrated into learning teaching. However, findings the impact on second and/or foreign (L2) are mixed. Therefore, this research conducted a meta‐analysis to synthesize existing research. Thirty‐one studies with 41 effect sizes were included in meta‐analysis. It was found that medium L2 ( g = 0.608, Z 6.77, p < 0.001). Moderating analysis further showed effects moderated by mobility access chatbot, modality whether or not AI technology involved, nature comparison groups design. suggest general positive learning. results enhance advantages chatbots, their accessibility, adaptability need be considered. Furthermore, more refined perspective is needed when discussing benefits use process.

Due to their efficiency, stability, and enhanced language comprehension analysis capabilities, generative AIs have attracted increasing attention in the field of writing as higher-level automated evaluation (AWE) feedback tools. However, few studies examined impact pre-service teachers using AI combination with own teaching experience provide on Chinese writing. To fill this gap, based 1035 texts, we differences between 11 Erine Bot (a AI) interviewed about willingness cooperate AI. The collaborative generated by was compared separately. We identified that, although Ernie provided significantly better than three specific areas (except for expression), both had respective advantages terms strategy, human–computer cooperative either or alone. true across all aspects focus strategy. These findings can support training improve quality students via implementing more effective feedback.
