A Case for Teacher Inquiry Groups for Exploring Language Teacher Identity Constructions in Transnational Contexts

pedagogize
LTI
education
and
professional
development
programs
diverse
contexts
around
globe—which
this
special
issue.
Grounded

we
introduce

RELC
Journal
's
April
2025
Special
Issue,
which
includes
articles
on
topic
of
pedagogizing
identity
in
language
teacher
education.
We
first
situate
special
issue

current
research
literature
and
share
a
summary
activities
used
previous
studies
that
reported
educators’
practices
identity-oriented

review
all
papers
included
issue,
including

studies,

In
this
study,
we
propose
an
ecological
model
of
teacher
agency
and
emotional
vulnerability
that
draws
on
epistemological
roots
these
two
constructs
to
capture
historico-personal,
socio-organizational,
prospective
levels
professionalism.
We
then
ontologically
apply
the
exploring
transnational
language
teachers'
in
context
Turkey.
Framing
study
within
a
narrative
inquiry
methodology,
collected
data
from
open-ended
questionnaires,
frames,
semi-structured
interviews.
Data
analyses
revealed
personal
emotions,
embodied
agencies,
vulnerabilities
were
profoundly
shaped
by
individual
histories,
contextual
discourses,
sociocultural
particularities.
The
findings
unpack
novel
dimensions
vulnerability,
attesting
their
interconnection,
especially
transnationalism.

with
implications
for
educators
reduce
pressure
teachers
render
agencies
as
rooted
effective
professional
growth,
rather
than
being
defined

qualitative
