Abstract This study investigates the predictive influences of expectancies and values that may sustain students’ dropout intentions in physics as well gender differences motivation intention. Eccles’s expectancy-value model was used to frame study. The academic self-concept (expectancy component) value components focusing on utility value, intrinsic psychological costs were examined. A final sample 61 students (31% female) enrolled courses at a German public university participated. had longitudinal design with two measurement points within one semester. regression revealed lower predicted students' intention drop out. However, subjective did not predict Women higher than men saw less or physics, whereas they want out more often. results highlight need close gap between males’ females’ regarding physics. Overall, these findings provide new insights into implications are discussed.
