We evaluated the effects of a 12-week hypocaloric ketogenic diet (KD) on glucose and lipid metabolism, as well body mass, in overweight, obese, healthy-weight females. One hundred adult females completed study, including 64 obese (97.99 ± 11.48 kg), 23 overweight (75.50 5.12 11 with normal mass (65.93 3.40 kg). All participants followed KD consisting less than 30 g carbohydrates, approximately 60 protein, 140 fat per day (80% unsaturated 20% saturated fat).

Background Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar affective disorder are debilitating psychiatric conditions characterized by a chronic pattern of emotional, behavioral, cognitive disturbances. Shared psychopathology includes the pre-eminence altered states, disorders thoughts, behavioral control. Additionally, those share epidemiological traits, including significant cardiovascular, metabolic, infectious, respiratory co-morbidities, resulting in reduced life expectancy up to 25 years. Nutritional ketosis has been successfully used treat range neurological preclinical data have convincingly shown potential for its use animal models psychotic disorders. More recent from open clinical trials pointed toward dramatic reduction psychotic, affective, metabolic symptoms both schizophrenia disorder. Objectives investigate effects nutritional via modified ketogenic diet (MKD) over 14 weeks stable community patients with or schizophrenia. Design A randomized placebo-controlled trial 100 non-hospitalized adult participants diagnosis who capable consenting willing change their diets. Intervention Dietitian-led medically supervised compared following Australian Guide Healthy Eating weeks. Outcomes The primary outcomes include measures, reported as symptom improvement functional changes Positive Negative Symptoms Scale (PANSS), Young Mania Rating (YMS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), WHO Disability Schedule, Affect Lability Cambridge Cognitive Battery. secondary body weight, blood pressure, liver kidney function tests, lipid profiles, markers insulin resistance. Ketone glucose levels will be study correlation between outcomes. Optional hair cortisol analysis assess long-term stress variations fecal microbiome composition. Autonomic nervous system activity measured wearable devices (OURA ring EMBRACE wristband) form skin conductance, oximetry, continuous pulse monitoring, rate, movement tracking, sleep quality. Based on encouraging results established research, other neurodevelopment disorders, schizophrenia, we predict that therapy well tolerated result improved global measures social functioning. The intestinal tract of humans harbors a dynamic and complex bacterial community known as the gut microbiota, which plays crucial role in regulating functions such metabolism immunity human body. Numerous studies conducted recent decades have also highlighted significant potential microbiota promoting health. It is widely recognized that training nutrition strategies are pivotal factors allow athletes to achieve optimal performance. Consequently, there has been an increasing focus on whether dietary patterns influence sports performance through their impact microbiota. In this review, we aim present concept primary explore relationship between exercise specifically examine popular associated with athletes' while considering interaction Finally, discuss mechanisms by affect from nutritional perspective, aiming elucidate intricate interplay among patterns, We found precise application specific (ketogenic diet, plant-based high-protein Mediterranean high intake carbohydrate) can improve vascular function reduce risk illness health promotion, etc., well recovery controlling weight regard improving performance, etc. conclusion, although it be inferred certain aspects athlete's ability may benefit mediated some extent, further high-quality clinical warranted substantiate these claims underlying mechanisms.

Epilepsy, a brain condition causing recurrent seizures, can disrupt various body functions, including urination. This study explored how alternate-day fasting (ADF), type of intermittent fasting, diet involving one day eating and subsequently affects urinary system health in epileptic rats. Using genetic rat model epilepsy, we examined bladder kidney function through tissue analysis, biochemical tests, physiological assessments, focusing on differences between males females. The results showed that epilepsy causes significant damage linked to inflammation oxidative stress. However, ADF reduces this by lowering restoring antioxidant balance. Male rats exhibited more damage, while female responded better ADF, likely due hormonal differences. These findings suggest as potential, cost-effective dietary approach protect against complications similar conditions. Understanding these effects may lead improved treatments for both genders quality life people with chronic diseases.

The Influence of Physical Exercise, Ketogenic Diet, and Time-Restricted Eating on De Novo Lipogenesis: A Narrative Review DOI Open Access

Nutrients, Год журнала: 2025, Номер 17(4), С. 663 - 663

De novo lipogenesis (DNL) is a metabolic pathway that converts carbohydrates into fatty acids, primarily occurring in the liver and, to lesser extent, adipose tissue. While hepatic DNL highly responsive dietary carbohydrate intake and regulated by insulin via transcription factors like SREBP-1c, more modest less sensitive overfeeding. Dysregulated contributes disorders, including dysfunction-associated steatotic disease (MASLD). Lifestyle interventions, such as physical exercise, ketogenic diets, time-restricted eating (TRE) offer promising strategies regulate improve health. Physical exercise enhances glucose uptake muscles, reduces levels, promotes lipid oxidation, thereby suppressing DNL. Endurance resistance training also mitochondrial function, further mitigating triglyceride accumulation. Ketogenic diets shift energy metabolism toward acid oxidation ketogenesis, lower insulin, directly downregulate lipogenic enzyme activity liver. TRE aligns feeding with circadian rhythms optimizing AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation during fasting periods, which suppresses metabolism. The combined effects of these interventions demonstrate significant potential for improving profiles, reducing triglycerides, preventing lipotoxicity. By addressing distinct roles DNL, target systemic localized dysregulation. Although research needed fully understand their long-term impact, findings highlight transformative integrating approaches clinical practice manage disorders associated complications.

Abstract Objective Nutritional support is crucial for critically ill patients. Body mass index (BMI) represents nutritional reserves to some extent, but it unclear whether the U-shaped relationship between caloric delivery during acute phase of critical illness and prognosis applies patients across all BMI categories. Methods This secondary analysis a multicenter prospective observational study, which included who were admitted intensive care unit (ICU) at least 3 days. The divided into two subgroups based on BMI: normal overweight (BMI > 25 kg/m²). We used univariate multivariate Cox regression analyses investigate calorie within first 72 hours ICU admission 28-day mortality, explore non-linear exists two. Results A total 361 in final analysis, including 272 subgroup 89 subgroup. In regression, there was significant (P = 0.003) association 0.002) daily delivered calories mortality. Increasing from 0 18 kcal/kg/day associated with decreasing mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 0.892, 95% CI 0.816–0.975), while increasing (HR 1.116, 1.016–1.227)); subgroup, higher also observed increase 1.124, 1.043–1.211, P 0.003), this disappeared (P 0.466). After adjustment, above results still hold up. Conclusions only those < kg/m², no such curve kg/m². Further research needed validate conclusion.

Abstract Intermittent fasting (IF) is an eating pattern that promotes health and cognitive improvement through periodic eating. It has been shown to enhance neuroplasticity reduce oxidative stress inflammation. Recent studies have demonstrated probiotic supplementation enhances performance by modulating gut microbiota composition increasing short‐chain fatty acid production, which in turn neurogenesis synaptic plasticity. The microbiota‐gut‐brain axis (MGBA) the communication bridge between brain, influencing function immune, endocrine, nervous systems. combination of probiotics IF may exert complementary effects on function, with enhancing microbial diversity metabolic efficiency, while further modulate barrier integrity neurotransmitter synthesis. This review critically examines interplay via MGBA, identifying key mechanisms potential therapeutic strategies remain underexplored current research.
