Photocatalytic Cascade Trifluoromethylation/Cyclization : Selective Synthesis of Trifluoroethylated Benzopyran and Benzopyranone Derivatives

Abstract We have realized a photocatalytic radical cascade cyclization reaction enabling the one‐step synthesis of rare trifluoroethyl benzopyran derivatives with wide variety structures in excellent yields. Furthermore, approach exhibits low catalyst loading, high regioselectivity and applicability under mild conditions. The selectivity this transformation is influenced by length carbon chain benzaldehyde, as demonstrated density functional theory calculations. Additionally, scaling up process can be readily accomplished.
