Abstract The error‐related negativity (ERN or Ne) is increasingly being investigated as a marker discriminating interindividual factors and moves toward surrogate for disorders interventions. Although reproducibility validity of neuroscientific psychological research has been criticized, clear data on how different quantification methods the ERN their relation to available trial numbers affect within‐ across‐participant studies sparse. Within large sample 863 healthy human participants, we demonstrate that, across number errors correlates with amplitude independently included in per participant, constituting possible confound when such variance unaccounted for. Additionally, find that amplitudes reach high consistency within participants at lower numbers, yet comparisons between groups are desired, increasing error‐trial lead higher statistical power. We derive concrete suggestions specific types analyses, which may help researchers more effectively design analyze EEG most appropriate measurement technique question hand available.

Survival in a fast-changing environment requires animals not only to detect unexpected sensory events, but also react. In humans, these salient events generate large electrocortical responses, which have been traditionally interpreted within the domain. Here we describe basic physiological mechanism coupling saliency-related cortical responses with motor output. four experiments conducted on 70 healthy participants, show that substartle stimuli modulate isometric force exertion by human and this modulation is tightly coupled activity elicited same stimuli. We obtained main results. First, follows complex triphasic pattern consisting of alternating decreases increases force, time-locked stimulus onset. Second, occurs regardless modality eliciting stimulus. Third, magnitude predicted amplitude Fourth, both neural effects are reflexive depend contextual factors. Together, results indicate sudden environmental an immediate effect processing, through tight corticomuscular coupling. These observations suggest saliency detection merely perceptive reactive, preparing animal for subsequent appropriate actions.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Salient occurring environment, their modalities, elicit electrical brain dominated widespread "vertex" negative-positive potential. This response largest synchronization can be recorded from being. Current interpretations assume vertex potential reflects processes. Contrary general assumption, strongly muscular pattern. Both its reconceptualize significance evoked suggesting actions.

Abstract Human nonverbal communication tools are very ambiguous and difficult to transfer machines or artificial intelligence (AI). If the AI understands mental state behind a user’s decision, it can learn more appropriate decisions even in unclear situations. We introduce Brain–AI Closed-Loop System (BACLoS), wireless interaction platform that enables human brain wave analysis transfers results verify enhance decision-making. developed earbud-like electroencephalography (EEG) measurement device, combined with tattoo-like electrodes connectors, which continuous recording of high-quality EEG signals, especially error-related potential (ErrP). The sensor measures ErrP reflects cognitive consequences an unpredicted machine response. corrects reinforces depending on presence absence is determined by deep learning classification received data. demonstrate BACLoS for AI-based machines, including autonomous driving vehicles, maze solvers, assistant interfaces.
