Abstract The hippocampal-entorhinal system uses cognitive maps to represent spatial knowledge and other types of relational information. However, objects can often be characterized by different relations simultaneously. How does the hippocampal formation handle embedding stimuli in multiple structures that differ vastly their mode timescale acquisition? Does integrate stimulus dimensions into one conjunctive map or is each dimension represented a parallel map? Here, we reanalyzed human functional magnetic resonance imaging data from Garvert et al. (2017) had previously revealed coding for newly learnt transition structure. Using adaptation analysis, found degree representational similarity bilateral hippocampus also decreased as function semantic distance between presented objects. Importantly, while both map-like localized formation, was located more posterior regions than structure thus anatomically distinct. This finding supports idea forms reflect diverse structures.

Objective: To investigate the definitions of spirituality in healthcare field, identifying its main dimensions and proposing a framework that operationalizes understanding this concept. Methods: This is systematic review following PRISMA guideline (PROSPERO: CRD42021262091), searching for published scientific journals. Searches were carried out PubMed (all articles listed up to October 2020) reference lists found database, followed by selection under specific eligibility criteria. Results: From total 493 articles, 166 included final analysis, showing there large body literature analyzing definitions. In these 24 found, most commonly related connectedness meaning life. Spirituality was presented as human individual aspect. These findings led us construct represents quantifiable construct. Conclusions: Understanding an important aspect research clinical practice. proposed may help better understand complexity topic, where advances are desirable, given relevance it has acquired integral health care.

Human reasoning depends on reusing pieces of information by putting them together in new ways. However, very little is known about how compositional computation implemented the brain. Here, we ask participants to solve a series problems that each require constructing whole from set elements. With fMRI, find representations novel constructed objects frontal cortex and hippocampus are relational compositional. MEG, replay assembles elements into compounds, with sequence constituting hypothesis possible configuration The content sequences evolves as puzzle, progressing predictable uncertain gradually converging correct configuration. Together, these results suggest computational bridge between apparently distinct functions hippocampal-prefrontal circuitry role for generative inference testing.

The neural systems supporting scene-perception and spatial-memory of the human brain are well-described. But how do these interact? Here, using fine-grained individual-subject fMRI, we report three cortical areas brain, each lying immediately anterior to a region scene perception network in posterior cerebral cortex, that selectively activate when recalling familiar real-world locations. Despite their close proximity areas, analyses show regions constitute distinct functional interfaces with spatial memory during naturalistic understanding. These "place-memory areas" offer new framework for understanding implements memory-guided visual behaviors, including navigation.

The detail and representation of a spatial layout varies with scale. This affects an individual's learning effectiveness understanding, in turn directly influencing their behavior fire evacuation. However, the impact methods different scales on evacuation behavior, relationship between cognition effects, remains unclear. We conducted across three 81 participants simulated scenario mobile virtual reality for groups. collected decision-making user experience questionnaires as supplementary data. results demonstrate that small-scale objects are easiest to understand terms relationships, but performance is poor. Large-scale significantly improve participants' efficiency. Spatial plays crucial role outcomes, traditional knowledge acquisition measurement cannot predict performance. study sheds light how influences provides more reliable simulation method based (MVR).

Whenever we navigate through different contexts, build a cognitive map: an internal representation of the territory. Spatial navigation is complex skill that involves multiple types information processing and integration. Place cells grid cells, collectively with other hippocampal medial entorhinal cortex neurons (MEC), form neural network whose activity critical for self-position orientation along spatial memory retrieval. Furthermore, this generates new representations adapting to changes in environment. Though there normal decline related aging, dramatically increased pathological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). AD multi-factorial neurodegenerative disorder affecting mainly hippocampus-entorhinal (HP-EC) circuit. Consequently, initial stages have disorientation wandering behavior two its hallmarks. Recent electrophysiological studies linked deficits difficulties encoding. Here will discuss map impairment remapping disruption HP-EC network, possible circuit mechanism involved observed AD, pointing out benefits virtual reality tool early diagnosis rehabilitation.
