Most measures of naturalistic human memory instruct participants to recall personally-experienced episodes in narrative format. These narratives contain non-episodic details, such as general knowledge the world, or personal about one’s life circumstances that are elevated with aging. As this content is incidental instructions, it difficult interpret. We modified widely used Autobiographical Interview (AI) create a Semantic (SAI) explicitly targets semantic (P-SAI) and memories (G-SAI). tested SAI young older adults, alongside original AI. Older adults produced higher proportion off-task utterances (i.e., details not probed by instructions) across all sections interview. Specifically, more autobiographical facts AI, episodic P-SAI, self-knowledge G-SAI than did adults. However, also consistently on P-SAI. findings suggest increased production ageing reflects bias towards age differences goes beyond remembering, reflected an age-associated abundance interview, accommodated accounts aging emphasizing reduced cognitive control compensation for impairment.

Stress resilience is the phenomenon that some people maintain their mental health despite exposure to adversity or show only temporary impairments followed by quick recovery. A meta-analytic review was conducted to assess the effects of healthy aging, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) on naturalistic autobiographical memory using Autobiographical Interview, a widely used, standardized assessment that derives measures internal (episodic) external (nonepisodic) details from freely recalled narratives.

Aging comes with declines in episodic memory. Memory decline is accompanied by structural and functional alterations within key brain regions, including the hippocampus lateral prefrontal cortex, as well their affiliated default frontoparietal control networks. Most studies have examined how or differences relate to memory independently. Here we implemented a multimodal, multivariate approach investigate interactions between individual integrity connectivity performance healthy aging. In sample of younger ( N = 111; mean age, 22.11 years) older 78; 67.29 adults, analyzed MRI multiecho resting-state fMRI data. Participants completed measures list recall (free words from list), associative (cued paired words), source trial type, sensory modality which word was presented). The findings revealed that greater posterior middle frontal gyrus were linked pattern increased within-network connectivity, together related better adulthood. Critically, adults displayed context decreased hippocampal volumes when reorganization. This reorganization characterized pruning connections limbic Our work provides insight into neural mechanisms underlie age-related compensation, revealing architecture associated aging tied cortex.

Cued recollection involves the retrieval of different features encoded event. Previous research has shown that complex events jointly recruits Default Mode and Frontoparietal Control networks, but degree to which activity within these networks varies as a function particular memory dimension (e.g., "when-what-where" information) remains largely unknown. In present functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) study, human participants retrieved specific information about previously TV show assess veracity detailed sentences along four dimensions (i.e., object character details, spatial layouts, temporal sequences, verbal dialogues). A common for all was observed in left-lateralized network regions overlaps with Network (FPCN), including lateral prefrontal, superior parietal, cortex. Instead, larger specialization (DMN), particularly its posterior nodes. Dimension-related specificity both associated performance across subjects. Finally, clear leftward asymmetry DMN except one, whereas FPCN showed bilateral activation dimensions. The results generally support view is processed by mosaic large portions associative cortex involved higher-order mnemonic functions.

Abstract In addition to episodic memory loss there is an increase in false remembering ageing especially when the discrimination between studied and new items difficult a recognition task. The aim of this study was identify underlying psychological mechanisms behavior, specifically, possible role recollection. We used Mnemonic Similarity Task, widely task neuroscience research developed assess behavioral manifestation hippocampal computations, pattern separation completion. First, older young adults ( n = 39 44, respectively) were presented with images everyday objects. Then, on surprise test, they saw old (studied) (non-studied) as well visually similar lures seen phase. Instead using original Old/New test format, we asked participants make confidence judgments. Our response frequency ROC (receiver operating characteristics) analyses revealed overconfidence memories for group suggesting Such not observed completely stimuli. results imply that tend acknowledge some problems consequence very high memories.

Nostalgia is a mixed emotion that often evoked by music. Nostalgic music may induce temporary improvements in autobiographical memory individuals with cognitive decline. However, the neural mechanism underlying music-evoked nostalgia and its associated unclear. With ultimate goal of understanding how nostalgia-evoking help retrieve memories impairment, we first sought to understand underpinnings these processes healthy younger older adults. Methodological constraints, including lack personally tailored experimentally controlled stimuli, have impeded our this mechanism. Here, utilized an innovative machine-learning-based method construct three categories songs, all matched for musical features: (1) personalized nostalgic, (2) familiar non-nostalgic, (3) unfamiliar non-nostalgic. In 57 participants (29 aged 18-35; 28 60 older), investigated functional correlates using fMRI. Four main findings emerged: Listening nostalgic music, more than non-nostalgic or was bilateral activity default mode network, salience reward medial temporal lobe, supplementary motor regions, Psychophysiological interaction (PPI) models indicated listening involved increased connectivity self-referential (posteromedial cortex) affect-related regions (insula), Older adults had stronger BOLD signals nostalgia-related during listening, (4) While response trait-level factors proneness ability, related affective responses Overall, serve as foundation basis potential use future clinical interventions.

Recent ageing research has projected the lifespan and proportion of postmenopausal women living in low- middle-income countries to substantially increase over years, especially on African continent. An important subgroup within population is those with female genital circumcision/mutilation/cutting (FGC). Practised across 31 nations, FGC holds cultural significance as it deemed essential marriage successful womanhood. Perhaps because this, most studies have primarily focused women's reproductive functioning their mood experiences. These also usually exclude from cohorts. Consequently, cognition age-related cognitive decline preservation remain understudied. Therefore, we investigated what known about local immigrant FGC. To do carried out a narrative review searching PubMed, PsycInfo, Google Scholar databases. Boolean combinations keywords related FGC, cognition, ageing, were used, focus ageing-related terms. Only published English, that recruited aged 50 years older, and/or mood-related experiences included. Ten found; these included quantitative, qualitative, case reports. The age range cohorts was 13-90 years; who likely formed minority (4.5%-25%). There no assessing memory or beyond looking at FGC-related memories, which vivid, if had type III (Pharaonic) older time Although reported experiencing negative emotions concerning quantitative reports showed only experienced post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression. Thus, there remains an urgent need bring this understudied group into dementia research. Future should adopt mixed-methods culturally sensitive methodologies investigate lived experience well changes. A holistic understanding Horn Africa's needs will support improvement quality care delivered cohort both contexts.
