Evolutionary
tradeoffs
between
life-history
strategies

animal
evolution.

microbial
dominance

Corals
associate

a
diverse
community

prokaryotic
symbionts
that

antioxidants

compounds

their

understudied.

microbial
communities

tenuis

may
contribute
variable
performance
under
thermal
stress.

bacterial

This
study
describes
a
Gram-stain-negative,
rod-shaped,
facultatively
anaerobic
bacterial
species
isolated
from
the
octocoral
Litophyton
sp.
inhabiting
live
coral
aquarium
at
Oceanário
de
Lisboa
in
Portugal.
Four
strains,
NE35,
NE40T,
NE41
and
NE43,
were
classified
into
genus
Endozoicomonas
by
means
of
16S
rRNA
gene
whole-genome
sequence
homologies.
We
then
performed
phylogenetic,
phylogenomic
biochemical
analyses
to
examine
their
novel
status
within
genus,
based
on
comparisons
with
designated
type
strain
NE40T.

closest
relatives
NE40T
are
montiporae
CL-33T
(98.2%),

(97.6%)

(97.2%).

Abstract
Background
Endozoicomonas
is
a
widely
distributed
genus
of
marine
bacteria,
associated
with
various
organisms,
and
recognized
for
its
ecological
importance
in
host
health,
nutrient
cycling,
disease
dynamics.
Despite
significance,
genomic
features
remain
poorly
characterized
due
to
limited
availability
high-quality
genome
assemblies.
Results
In
this
study,
we
sequenced
5
novel
strains
re-sequenced

known
strain

resolution.

genomes

coral-associated
clade

by
