Rice plants generate a large amount of straw after harvesting, which is currently managed mainly by incineration or used as animal bedding, fodder wrapping materials during transport. Other technological uses, such the production energy and biofuels, pulp paper construction have also been described. However, due to current European Union (EU) restrictions, alternatives for waste management must be sought. Valorisation rice aligned with Sustainable Development Goals agenda set EU, since interesting biocompounds described in their composition and, successful extraction purification, they can various sectors. This review gathers most relevant works related valorisation straw. It focuses on polyphenolic extracts cellulose derivatives obtained different techniques, either conventional innovative. In addition, applications that these compounds field food nutrition sciences are summarized. Increasing generation of electronic waste (e-waste) is a major concern for emerging rare earth elements (REEs) pollution if not appropriately disposed of. Nevertheless, e-waste could be considered as secondary source critical REEs mining. Under the context circular economy, this review focuses on selective recovery from using ionic liquid (IL) extraction. ILs demonstrate sustainable alternative to organic volatiles used in traditional solvent extraction process. Despite insufficient literature applications limited categories real e-waste, comprehensively summarizes latest studies (mostly uncontaminated) IL and existing data indicate encouraging outcomes terms extractability selectivity.
