Toxic pollutants in the environment, such as toxins and abused drugs, have posed a major threat to human health ecosystem security. It is extremely desirable develop simple, low-cost, sensitive, reliable techniques for detection of these environment. As booming analytical method, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors possess low background noise high sensitivity. The performances PEC are fundamentally related photoelectric conversion efficiency, which mainly depends on properties photoactive materials. This review aims summarize engineered materials, i.e., semiconductors semiconductor-based heterojunctions, well their actual applications, with emphasis sensing mechanisms analysis drugs Finally, future research perspectives this field also discussed.
