Background: Metabolomics serves as a very useful tool for elucidating disease mechanisms and identifying biomarkers. Establishing reference intervals (RIs) of metabolites in healthy population is crucial to the application metabolomics life sciences clinics. Methods: We enrolled 615 Chinese adults aged between 21 85 years. Their health status was ascertained through clinical examinations, biochemical parameters, medical history. Targeted lipidomics analyses were applied quantify 705 lipids serum, establishing RIs investigating effect sex age on metabolome lipidome. Results: This study first large-scale effort China establish apparently population. found that most sex-related metabolites, including amino acids, acyl-carnitines triacylglycerols, had higher concentrations males, while other showed females. Most age-related increased with age, those associated protein synthesis, nitric oxide energy metabolism, lipid metabolism. Conclusions: gives lipidome their relationship which facilitates precision medicine, especially research biomarker discovery.
