Abstract On the basis of rock‐coupled joints Jiangluling Tunnel on G214 line in permafrost region Qinghai, a freeze‐shear test was carried out to study shear characteristics and failure mechanism jointed rock with different opening conditions. After the construction of frozen wall vertical shaft is completed, it will undergo a long thawing process. Accumulation damage under load may lead to rupture walls and cause engineering accidents. The changes in mechanical properties during process rocks are key issues controlling stability walls. In view instability problem shaft, this article chooses saturated sandstone Cretaceous system as research object. And nuclear magnetic resonance technology was used detect pore water content at temperatures. results indicate that: ① At room temperature, mainly exists form free water, while low temperatures, adsorbed water. ② Compared with soil, also exhibit significant supercooling phenomena. ③ According variation unfrozen can be divided into three stages: freezing cessation (- 20 ℃ ~ - 6 °C), stable °C 2 rapid (-2 ℃). ④ As increases, closure level gradually initiation expansion levels decrease. ⑤ There an exponential relationship between peak strength sandstone, good correlation. show same trend change pressures. provide theoretical support experimental basis evaluating failure induced by
