Abstract Groundwater is the critical resource for agricultural, industrial, and urban-rural water supplies in arid semi-arid regions, especially North China Plain. In this study, 64 groundwater samples were collected to assess potential development utilization upper reaches of Zhang Wei river. The hydrochemical analysis revealed that primarily composed HCO3-Ca HCO3-Na·Ca. type influenced by natural water-rock interactions, including evaporite dissolution, silicate weathering, ion exchange processes. Isotope data hydrogen oxygen, characterized positive deviations from global meteoric line, underscore significant impact evaporation region. An entropy weight index method was employed quality evaluation, revealing over 89% complied with Class II standards household use. Furthermore, more than 85% area’s exhibited Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) concentrations below 1,000 mg/L, indicating a predominance soft water. However, toxic elements such as fluorine (F), iodine (I), chromium (Cr) found exceed drinking standards, posing health risk. Particularly, intake level above permissible value, potentially causing non-carcinogenic risks children infants. conclusion, while overall favorable region, presence geochemically derived substances necessitates careful consideration its suitability purposes.

The Kunlun Mountains on Tibetan Plateau Plateau, well known as Asian Water Tower, holds immense potential for the formation of glacial mineral water. present research focuses hydrochemical and isotopic signatures pattern natural water in alpine region Plateau. investigated groundwater has outstanding quality slightly alkaline nature. It is with fresh facies HCO3-Na·Ca type total dissolved solids (TDS) range 384–964 mg/L, featured by notably rich strontium concentrations 0.67–0.81 far exceeding recommended minimum threshold 0.20 mg/L. originated from glacier meltwater mountainous area elevation over 4500 m. subsequently infiltrates into bedrock move within system a residence time approximately 52 years. Its constituents are naturally governed water-rock interactions silicates dissolution, cation exchange, celestite strontianite dissolution. A conceptual model proposed to outline Findings this study can fill gap regarding further contribute future development regions worldwide.

Groundwater is crucial for human society's development in piedmont plains, yet its hydrogeochemistry often exhibits complex spatial distributions due to the interplay of nature and factors. Ninety-two phreatic groundwater samples were collected from a typical plain northern China analyzed using self-organizing map combined with hydrogeochemical simulation, diagrams, entropy-weighted water quality index. categorized into four clusters, demonstrating gradual facies evolution HCO3-Ca Cl-Mg·Ca Cl-Na, along an increase NO3- content order clusters IV, II, III, I. Natural processes, including silicates weathering reverse cation-exchange, establish natural fundamental framework chemistry, which furtherly sculptured by agricultural substances input. was predominantly excellent or good, index (EWQI) values below 100 at over 92% sampling sites. relatively poorer upstream areas near mountains Hutuo River, where stratum permeability high, but improves downstream lower. Agricultural land use variation aquifer are responsible observed variations chemistry. contaminants warrant attention protection plains that long-term activities, especially mountains. This research understanding distribution chemistry provides scientific guidance related management.

ABSTRACT Groundwater is a crucial water resource for various usages worldwide. The Quetta Valley of Pakistan was investigated regarding its groundwater quality sustainability based on integrated approaches hydrochemistry, geographic information system, and multivariate statistics. A total 29 samples were collected from monitoring wells to get insights into the hydrochemical suitability sustainable irrigation drinking utilization. results indicate mainly featured by facies HCO3·Cl-Ca. composition dominantly governed dissolution carbonates silicate minerals in combination with positive cation exchange valley. Principal component analysis reveals significant influence geogenic factors chemistry, further supported PHREEQC simulation that detects supersaturation calcite, dolomite, sulphate aquifer. index divides study area three zones, which signify low restriction no restriction, except severe southwestern part generally suitable across entropy-weighted classifies as excellent good drinking. This can provide authorities similar regions
