The ongoing progress of industrialization and urbanization has exacerbated the imbalance between carbon emissions absorption, leading to heightened risks climate change, such as frequent occurrences extreme weather events. Clarifying driving forces temporal–spatial evolution characteristics China’s balance holds significant theoretical value in understanding systemic nature patterns interaction absorption. We utilize provincial panel data from 2005 2021 China a spatial Durbin model explore spillover effects its influencing factors. results indicate gradual exacerbation over time. There exists spatially positive correlation pattern distribution. As an important economic growth pole and ecological area in China, the urban agglomeration of Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) is key to carbon emission reduction. Exploring spatial–temporal evolution driving variables its efficiency (CEE) crucial for realizing goals peaking neutrality. The super-efficiency SBM model, nuclear density method, spatial autocorrelation method were used discuss CEE characteristics 105 cities YREB. On factors emissions, geographic detector Tobit model combined explore differentiation from perspective heterogeneity, concurrently analyze single-factor's effecting intensity impacting direction, as well dual-factors' interaction effects. findings indicated that YREB generally showed a slow upward trend during 2006–2021. From time dynamic evolution, intensified, overall development was toward high level. Furthermore, results pattern presents "downstream areas > midstream upstream areas", "high east low west", "hot cold while clustering effect significant, showing distributions low-low or high-high clustering. Moreover, government intervention, growth, technological progress main factors. In addition, interactions intervention other significantly detected. regression advancement had favorable impact on CEE, but foreign investment, urbanization, involvement negative impacts. future, correlations between provinces should be strengthened amplified promote integrated green development, improve environments.

Purpose Clarifying the relationship between building carbon emissions and economic development can help sustainable construction in field of construction, this paper provides a constructive suggestion for ensuring while realizing energy efficiency emission reduction buildings. Design/methodology/approach The study focuses on sector firstly analyzes complex agglomeration (EA) intensity (CEI) commercial buildings at city level through spatial Durbin model threshold effect model, then discusses regional heterogeneity from dimensions density climate zones, respectively, finally depth intrinsic influencing mechanism EA CEI Findings authors found that (1) there is an inverted U-shaped nonlinear buildings, inflection point 2.42, i.e. 1.125 bn RMB/km 2 . Ecological industrial parks (EIPs) play a pivotal role as primary drivers of China’s green transformation, facilitating the enhancement urban carbon emission efficiency (UCEE) and realization sustainable development. This study empirically investigates effects EIP policies on UCEE through quasi-natural experiments, utilizing data from 282 prefecture-level cities in China spanning 2006 to 2021. Employing multi-period difference-in-difference (DID) method, findings are follows: (1) The implementation leads 2.5% average increase UCEE. (2) Event analysis reveals certain lagging characteristics promoting effect pilot cities. (3) construction primarily enhances by reinforcing agglomeration elevating innovation ability. (4) is more pronounced eastern central regions, well non-resource-based within different regions. Drawing empirical results, this provides pertinent recommendations for construction, offering theoretical guidance policymakers managers crafting development strategies.
