Environmental perception is a key indicator for evaluating green space preference and satisfaction. The shift in urban research towards emphasizing human benefits over functionality has caused gradual increase the number of articles on recent years. Studying relationship between vegetation landscape (a fundamental aspect spaces) subjective perceptual dimensions have become pivotal topic. This paper delves into correlations influencing relationships these two with main focus being indicators perception. perceived were categorized four groups 80 reviewed: safety, visual aesthetics, restoration benefits, preferences. In this study, also defined categorized. results indicated that guiding had higher frequency species diversity improved all aspects. Among control indicators, plant color, height, composition structure received most attention. Plant color accounted largest proportion studies aesthetics. Vegetation characteristics related to safety shared trait, there was lack correlation aesthetics dimensions. common methods assessing perception, from measurements mixed using emerging technologies underway. As pioneering scope review how landscapes influence perceptions, study not only provided evidence spaces but offers valuable insights tools future policymaking.

Natural landscapes are linked to health and well-being outcomes. This research investigated emotional responses colour in the landscape. An online questionnaire (with 715 respondents) was employed capture participants' preferences positive psychological reactions key flower colours combinations. Images were created using combinations of pansy flowers various colours. Flower explored effects complementary, analogous warm/cool harmonies. Orange (a warm colour) provided a strong uplifting emotion participants: an response that maintained even when up 50 % orange replaced by complementary (and cool) blue. In contrast, relaxing effect 100 blue lost 25 or more orange. Using cool colours, it evident feelings relaxation than purple, adding purple combination (50:50) reduced capacity floral composition promote relaxation. The found be most relaxing, however, white; but again mixing this with either tended reduce its relax. Thus, study suggests certain patterns provide generic enhancing individuals; point can exploited designed therapeutic landscapes. data also indicated, scored quite highly for (mean score > 6.5) people's favourite colour/combination often described as (7.4), indicating subjective nature preference response. whilst understanding principles about responses, designers need take account personal should some variety colours/colour different parts garden/park. These findings valuable insights horticultural design practices, emphasizing importance selection user creating supportive environments mental well-being.

The largest public space in any city is its streets. Investments which incorporate small-scale green infrastructure into streetscapes can bring more nature the lives of urban residents worldwide, including those living even most economically and spatially constraint places. However, little known about impact such investments on residents' affective perceptions their local environments how to design these maximise positive impacts. In current study, we use photo simulation techniques an adapted form Positive Negative Affective Schedule examine interventions low, middle high-income sites Santiago Chile. Our results, based 62,478 reports from 3,472 people, indicate that both promote affect and, a lesser, but still substantial extent reduce negative affect. magnitudes relationships vary across discrete measures for many measures, negative, minimum 16% increase coverage required see impact. Finally, find people associated lower with compared high, income inequalities be addressed, at least part, through interventions.

Addressing the emotional needs of elderly in urban space design has increasingly become a vital concern. This study innovatively integrates theories with community outdoor spaces, thereby expanding research on categorization spaces. At 8 sites Yi Jie Qu, China, 330 residents were randomly recruited to assess their color responses (CER) landscapes these Based Affective Circumplex Model and Japanese Color Image Theory, Emotion was constructed visually represent overall tendencies significant positive emotions elderly. The second innovation this lies exploring driving factors behind elderly, primary user group We analyzed differences CER between autumn winter scenes, employing variance analysis, correlation, regression investigate substantial effects individual characteristics CER. discovered that exhibit stronger towards clean healthy emotions. Notably, more pronounced scenes compared winter. Furthermore, educational level, visit frequency, brightness positively influenced CER, whereas walking time from residence area ratios blue gray negatively impacted These findings not only provide theoretical basis for age-friendly but also offer new perspectives practical guidance international planning domain. Our underscores importance incorporating into design, offering novel future design.

Flowers, as integral elements of urban landscapes, are critical not only for aesthetic purposes but also fostering human–nature interactions in green spaces. However, research on flower color preferences has largely been descriptive, and there is a lack exploration potential mechanisms influencing preferences, such economic social factors. This study created visual samples through precise adjustment techniques introduced the L*, a*, b* parameters from CIELAB system to quantify colors survey samples, conducting an online with 354 Chinese residents. The complex process’s driving factors were unveiled comprehensive analysis using Generalized Additive Model (GAM), piecewise Structural Equation (SEM), linear regression models. results show that public’s preference primarily related a* parameters, which represent dimensions space, it significantly L* (lightness). Factors age, annual household income level (AI), personal sources (PI), nature experience, emotional state (TMD) influence identified most factor. Lastly, models further explain mechanism proposes framework assist planners selecting resonate diverse populations, enhancing both attractiveness spaces their promote pro-environmental behavior. By aligning design public this contributes sustainable planning practices aimed at improving human well-being deeper connections nature.
