Urban forest policies have garnered increasing global attention for their critical role in providing key ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, air pollution control, microclimate regulation, and biodiversity enhancement, well potential to drive green innovation sustainable urban development. This study utilized panel data from 273 Chinese cities between 2000 2022, employing a quasi-natural experiment difference-in-differences (DID) model systematically evaluate the impact of National Forest City Policy (NFCP) on innovation. The results indicate that NFCP significantly enhances innovation, with these findings remaining robust across series validation tests. Mechanism analysis revealed policy fosters by environmental attention, facilitating talent aggregation, reducing emissions. Furthermore, heterogeneity showed policy’s effects are more pronounced small- medium-sized cities, non-transportation hub economically developed regions. Based findings, this paper offers recommendations optimizing implementation different city types further promote economic broadens research perspective relationship precise decision-making guidance policymakers while also highlighting important forests play enhancing driving growth.

This study aimed to develop criteria for the expert assessment of visual attractiveness informal urban green spaces and compare these results with indicators derived from spectral indices geospatial data. The research was conducted in Lublin, Poland, a medium-sized European city. evaluated overall attractiveness, naturalness, landscape contrast, uniqueness. were juxtaposed indices, such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Leaf Area (LAI), land surface temperature, which calculated target areas 300 m buffer surrounding them. analyses revealed strong correlations between ratings indices. For example, linked lower temperatures, while contrast exhibited relationship temperature differentials. Moreover, greater showed larger index differences site buffer. Positive also observed slope. Importantly, highlighted ecological value some sites that received assessments, dominated by shrubs bushes. introduces concept ‘enchanted natural places’ (ENPs) framework identifying formalizing protection visually ecologically valuable, spaces. integration evaluations data provides novel, robust methodology assessing spaces, bridging subjective perceptions objective environmental indicators. approach underscores importance not only aesthetic benefits but supporting biodiversity mitigating heat islands, contributing resilience face climate change.

Nature-based solutions (NBS) encompass a diverse range of ecosystem-based strategies aimed at addressing urban sustainability challenges. Among these, skyscraper greenery emerges as specialized application NBS, integrating vertical vegetation systems into high-rise architecture to enhance carbon sequestration, mitigate heat islands, and improve air quality. By extending NBS principles the dimension cities, this approach offers scalable solution for climate adaptation in high-density environments. This study provides comprehensive bibliometric analysis research from 2003 2023, employing advanced tools such CiteSpace Bibliometrix assess publication trends, elucidate key themes, identify prevailing knowledge gaps. The findings underscore environmental benefits greenery, including its role alleviating island effect, improving quality, enhancing biodiversity. Additionally, economic advantages, reductions energy consumption operational costs, further highlight multifaceted utility. Carbon sequestration within primarily occurs through vegetation’s photosynthetic processes, which are influenced by plant species, substrate composition, system design. Thermal performance, ecosystem services, biodiversity emerge pivotal themes driving domain. Urban informal green spaces (IGS) represent valuable reservoirs of biodiversity within urban areas and are increasingly recognized as integral components infrastructure. They perceived temporary ecosystems, the management their vegetation is relatively understudied. The development time spontaneous on transformed lands considered to be in range decades, which makes it even more necessary provide managers with better guidelines for such a long period. Two suggested approaches these involve: (1) retaining at various stages succession (non-forest IGS) (2) protecting advanced developmental (forest IGS), options balanced intervention or complete non-intervention. However, differences between two types cities across Central Europe remain unknown, well whether predictors both local landscape scales consistent non-forest forest IGS. We examined factors habitat continuity, structure, soil quality, human impact shed light pathways enhancing floristic diversity. Conducting extensive botanical surveys existing Warsaw, we derived parameters, including total number species, Shannon-Wiener index, hemeroby, urbanity, share species from distinct ecological groups, rare ancient plant species. Tracing continuity early 20th century using digitized aerial imagery provided unique long-term perspective IGS development. revealed that no pivotal conservation select On other hand, partial abandonment occasional maintenance may enrich diversity different successional phases. uncovered significant influence structure activity composition Notably, proximate landscapes displayed marked abundance alongside greater prevalence presence vicinity did not yield similar effects. Our findings indicate IGS, when left untouched decades near forested areas, biodiversity. As globe seek sustainable paths, this research underscores importance properly understanding integrating into planning.
