Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common STI and accounts for roughly 37 000 HPV-associated cancers annually in United States. Despite documented safety effectiveness of HPV vaccine, vaccination rates should be higher. We summarize literature surrounding vaccine hesitancy, a main reason suboptimal coverage. aim to describe complex factors that lead hesitancy order support improvement our communities. Studies document sustained immunogenicity 10 years post vaccination. Vaccine coverage was rising until 2022, when initiation declined. Primary reasons are: perceived lack provider recommendation, parental knowledge necessity especially if an adolescent not sexually active, concerns. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged access care exacerbated vaccine-related discourse. hesitant adopters reveal social processes, including conversations with community members, have substantial impact on decisions vaccinate. highlight recent behind toward focusing concerns about its safety, by medical mistrust misinformation. findings successful educational outreach community-based interventions improve postpandemic media era.
