Abstract Transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) are widely used in photocatalytic fields such as hydrogen evolution, nitrogen fixation, and pollutant degradation due to their suitable bandgaps, tunable electronic optical properties, strong reducing ability. The unique 2D malleability structure provides a pre‐designed platform for customizable structures. introduction of vacancy engineering makes up the shortcomings photocorrosion limited light response greatest support TMCs terms kinetics thermodynamics photocatalysis. This work reviews effect on performance based semiconductor TMCs. characteristics strategies summarized, development photocatalysis materials energy conversion, degradation, biological applications is reviewed. contribution vacancies range charge transfer also discussed from perspective manipulation. Vacancy not only controls optimizes TMCs, but improves transfer, surface properties. synergies between atomic doping, other vacancies, heterojunction composite techniques detail, followed by summary current trends potential expansion.

As a stable, low-cost, environment-friendly, and gas-sensitive material, semiconductor metal oxides have been widely used for gas sensing. In the past few years, single-atom catalysts (SACs) gained increasing attention in field of sensing with advantages maximized atomic utilization unique electronic chemical properties successfully applied to enhance detection sensitivity selectivity oxide sensors. However, application SACs sensors is still its infancy. Herein, we critically review recent advances current status sensors, providing some suggestions development this field. The synthesis methods characterization techniques SAC-modified are summarized. interactions between crucial stable loading improving performance.
