Bacterial contamination in drinking water is a global health concern, necessitating the development of highly efficient treatment techniques. Anion-exchange resins (AERs) have long been employed for removing anionic contaminants from water, but their performance bacterial poor. Here, we develop novel AER (AER6–1) with exceptional bactericidal effects and ultrafast adsorption rates extracellular DNA (eDNA) (2.2- 11.5-fold compared to other AERs) achieved through preloading quaternary ammonium groups (QAGs) hexyl chain (−C6–N+−) on resin exterior successively grafting QAGs methyl (−C1–N+−) inside pore. The AER6–1 outperforms commercial AERs ultraviolet disinfection, exhibiting superior elimination total bacteria, potential pathogens (Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa), eDNA, antibiotic resistance genes (mexF, mexB, bacA) actual while maintaining comparable anion exchange capacity AERs. Theoretical calculations density functional theory xDLVO combined XPS elucidate crucial roles hydrogen bonding hydrophobic force provided by skeleton −C6–N+– cleaving cell membrane increasing kinetics eDNA. This study broadens scope highlights an effective way simultaneously water.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) exerts a crucial role in biogeochemical processes and ascertaining water quality reservoirs, where it is vulnerable to the dynamic impacts of surface inflows. However, understanding how DOM quantity biochemical features responds hydrodynamic forces tropical reservoirs remains limited. To enhance our vertical profiles characteristics under varying (strong, moderate, weak regions) Chitian Reservoir (18°43′–18°42′ N, 109°68′–109°70′ E), December 2023, we investigated concentrations column samples using multispectral techniques, parallel factor model, two-dimensional correlation analysis. Our results indicated that (4.34 ± 0.36 mg/L) are highest reservoir center, whereas total nitrogen (0.52 0.04 mg/L), phosphorus (0.02 0.03 nitrate (1.01 0.07 present their values inlet region. As force decreases, microbial activity increases, DOM’s humification degree molecular weight decline. comprises humic-like components, including three terrestrial sources (accounting for 85.38%~87.03%) one source, with dominant allochthonous origin. The relative abundance components decreased from 14.62% 12.97% increasing increased depth. functional groups strong region reservoir’s upper layer show high consistency uniformity. Phenolic O–H most reactive group concerning changes depth across all areas, followed by polysaccharide C–O, owing its photoactivity. Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and its activation processes have been extensively studied. However, iodinated byproducts (I-DBPs) generated during nonactivated PMS (NPMS) activated (APMS) pose a significant risk. In NPMS, 50 μg/L concentration of iodide (I–) could significantly (p < 0.05) increase the cytotoxicity both Suwanee River natural organic matter (SRNOM) solution wastewater secondary effluent (SE), at dose 0.5 mM PMS. Cytotoxicity genotoxicity SRNOM increased by 6.6 mg-phenol/L 2.4 μg-4-NQO/L with 200 I–. For toxicities 2.4-fold 1.9-fold. APMS reduced 42–47% 53–60% compared NPMS in I–-containing SE samples. promoted adsorbable iodine (AOI) formation, while inhibited AOI 77.5–84.9%. FTICR-MS showed favored I-DBP generation aromatic precursors, whereas eliminated these precursors I-DBPs. Compounds such as p-iodophenol 4-methyl-2-iodophenol were detected but removed APMS. exhibited weaker oxidation, producing tannic acid-like, lignin-like, protein-like that can toxicity when reacting HOI. Conversely, enhanced oxidation via hydroxyl radicals singlet oxygen, decomposing further. Importantly, also converted HOI into nontoxic iodate, reducing overall water.

Under the concept of green and low-carbon development, efficient environmentally friendly biochar preparation methods have attracted much attention. This study assessed a novel sodium carbonate activator combined with acid modification for sludge-based (SB) production its adsorption organics in wool scouring wastewater. 600 °C, optimal carbonization temperature, residual weight percentage carbonized material increases from 27% to 73% after Na2CO3 activation compared ZnCl2 activation. Compared HCl-modified ZnCl2-activated (Zn-Cl-SB), HCl-H2SO4-modified Na2CO3-activated (Na-Cl/S-SB) had specific surface area 509.3 m2/g, average mesopore size was 7.896 nm, micropore volume increasing by 83.3% 79.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, C-O oxygen-containing functional groups pyrrole nitrogen-containing were significantly increased. Na-Cl/S-SB exhibited an excellent performance organic matter wastewater, maximum capacity 168.3 mg/g. Furthermore, process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Three-dimensional fluorescence spectrum analysis showed that strong aromatic protein analogs, proteins containing benzene rings, dissolved microbial by-products will serve as guideline synthesis SB while improving ability adsorb pollutants.
