Among the semiconductor photocatalytic materials, zinc oxide (ZnO)-based composites show promising research prospects in field of environmental and biomedical materials due to their simple preparation, low cost, high performance, excellent physical stability biocompatibility. Therefore, this review summarize preparation application ZnO-based with catalytic performance. Firstly, modification strategies ZnO by researchers recent years are reviewed, including non-metal doping, metal noble deposition, compounding semiconductors other surface methods. Subsequently, applications biomedicine (antibacterial, anticancer, biosensing, etc.), pollution fields last five presented. Finally, challenges faced future development various discussed. We hope that will provide ideas for design efficient photocatalysts based on further applications.
