We previously observed a notable discrepancy in the distribution of HEV-3 subtypes between wastewater and clinical samples Sweden. To confirm this observation comprehensively elucidate circulation patterns across humans, animals, environmental waters Sweden, we analyzed HEV genetic diversity archived late 2016 early 2018, cases 2012 2024, all available Swedish sequences from NCBI Virus database. RNA was detected samples, with subtype 3c being only identified. In typed cases, 3f (45/126) (44/126) were nearly equally distributed, though regional dominance varied. When incorporating human other studies, became dominant (75/168). Analysis revealed that (113/136) Sus scrofa (pigs wild boars), while (30/33) waters. These findings highlight complex transmission dynamics The near-absence domestic pigs boars, despite its high proportion raises question about source infection. addition, near-exclusive detection suggests potential differences viral shedding, disease severity subtypes, or alternative host sources. This study emphasizes importance integrated One Health surveillance to track reservoirs.
