Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been confirmed as reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This study systematically investigated the distribution patterns ARGs across different units in municipal WWTPs, along with environmental drivers, dissemination characteristics, and exposure risks aerosol-borne aerated tank environments. The results revealed a high compositional similarity sampling sites, multidrug predominating at an average relative abundance 52%, followed sequentially by tetracycline (11%), MLS (10%), glycopeptide (7%). diffusion is significantly influenced factors including temperature, humidity, wind speed, total suspended particulate (TSP) concentration, temperature being most dominant factor affecting dispersion ARGs. atmospheric model demonstrates that decay increasing downwind distance, showing potential for transport from aeration tanks to locations exceeding 1500 m prevailing direction. Both within wastewater areas, adult males had higher respiratory doses but lower skin contact compared females, 3–4 orders magnitude. highlights health posed ARG transmission WWTP operations.
