A novel bacterial strain, Enterobacter quasihormaechei DGFC5, was isolated from a municipal sewage disposal system. It efficiently removed ammonium, nitrate, and nitrite under conditions of 5% salinity, without intermediate accumulation. Provided with mixed nitrogen source, DGFC5 showed higher utilization priority for NH4+-N. Whole-genome sequencing balance experiments revealed that can simultaneously consume NH4+-N in the liquid phase through assimilation heterotrophic nitrification, effectively remove nitrate via aerobic denitrification dissimilatory reduction reactions. Single-factor were conducted to determine optimal removal conditions, which as follows: carbon-to-nitrogen ratio 15, shaking speed 200 rpm, pH 7, C4H4Na2O4 carbon temperature 30 °C. efficient purification capabilities wide range environmental indicating its potential disposing nitrogenous wastewater high salinity.
