Abstract We present a complete, time-scaled, evolutionary tree of the world’s bird species. This unites phylogenetic estimates for 9,239 species from 262 studies published between 1990 and 2024, using Open Tree synthesis algorithm. Sequence data assembly is a foundational step in high-throughput sequencing, with untold consequences for downstream analyses. Despite this, few studies have interrogated the many methods assembling phylogenomic UCE their comparative efficacy, or how outputs may be impacted. We study this by comparing most commonly used UCEs under-studied bee lineage Nomiinae and representative sampling of relatives. Data 63 UCE-only 75 mixed taxa were assembled five methods, including ABySS, HybPiper, SPAdes, Trinity Velvet, then benchmarked relative performance terms locus capture parameters phylogenetic reconstruction. Unexpectedly, Velvet trailed other DNA matrix density, whereas SPAdes performed favourably assessed metrics. In comparison guided-assembly approach HybPiper generally recovered highest quality loci but lower numbers. Based on our results, we formally move Clavinomia to Dieunomiini render Epinomia once more subgenus Dieunomia. strongly advise that future closely examine influence or, minimally, use better-performing such as HybPiper. way, can forward standardized, comparable manner.

Islands have long represented natural laboratories for studying many aspects of ecology and evolutionary biology, from speciation to community assembly. One aspect that has been well documented is the correlation between island size taxonomic diversity, likely due decreased complexity population on small islands. White‐eyes are an iconic avian radiation of small passerines that mainly distributed across the eastern hemisphere tropics and subtropics. Species diversity white‐eyes is particularly high on oceanic islands, many species restricted to single islands or island groups. The rate diversification ranks them among fastest radiations known in birds, but whether their accelerated was result repeatedly colonizing remains unexplored. Geographic isolation plays a pivotal role in speciation by restricting gene flow between populations through distance or physical barriers. However, the process is complex, influenced interplay dispersal ability and geographic isolation, especially “great speciators” – bird species present on multiple islands that, at same time, have many subspecies. Comparing population differentiation both continental insular settings can help us to understand importance of geographical context emergence great speciators. The highly diverse white-eye family Zosteropidae includes several speciators, including silvereye ( Zosterops lateralis ) which consists 16 subspecies, 11 occurring islands. distribution Australian continent numerous southwest Pacific allows explore influence different forms divergence.
