Decarbonizing the building sector is crucial for mitigating climate change, reducing carbon emissions, and achieving an energy production–consumption balance. This research aims to identify key design principles strategies enhance savings analyze integration potential of renewable sources (RES) such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, providing in-depth technical exploration evaluating current developments. Moreover, study also examines recent developments, explicitly focusing on integrating hybrid systems, storage solutions, AI-based technological innovations. Through comprehensive analysis critical evaluation, this provides valuable insights practical recommendations sustainability advancing transition towards a low-carbon built environment.

Climate change is a pressing global challenge with profound implications for human health. Forest-based climate mitigation strategies, such as afforestation, reforestation, and sustainable forest management, offer promising solutions to mitigate simultaneously yield substantial co-benefits The objective of this scoping review was examine research trends related the interdisciplinary nexus between forests carbon sinks health co-benefits. We developed conceptual framework model, supporting inclusion exposure pathways, recreational opportunities or aesthetic experiences, in co-benefit context. used methodology identify proportion European on forest-based strategies that acknowledge interconnection impacts. also aimed assess whether synergies trade-offs sink capacity has been analysed quantified. From initial 4,062 records retrieved, 349 reports management principles factors capacity. Of those, 97 studies acknowledged 13 quantified impacts pathways were included full review. Our analysis demonstrates there potential optimising together co-benefits, but currently lack holistic approaches assessing these interrelationships. suggest enhanced efforts, using example multideterminant modelling approaches, advance evidence understanding context mitigation.

This paper announces a new initiative - the research project Policy and Implementation for Climate & Health Equity (PAICE), which aims to investigate complex systemic connections between climate change action, health equity, translation of evidence into policy practice in UK. Using transdisciplinary approaches, PAICE will: (1) co-develop programme theory linked monitoring evaluation plan, (2) work with UK Change Committee (CCC) Greater London Authority (GLA) using system dynamics analyse national local opportunities, (3) build an integrated model effects these policies on population health, equity greenhouse gas emissions, (4) apply findings CCC framework GLA development, (5) use help evaluate achievement processes objectives. If successful, will have helped establish systems capability (i) monitor whether Government plans are track deliver their targets associated impacts (ii) understand how relevant implementation approaches could be enhanced.

Moving towards net-zero emission societies is projected to provide human health co-benefits. However, the magnitude of these co-benefits poorly documented and might be context specific. Synthesising evidence on could enhance engagement decision makers populations in climate mitigation actions. We performed database searches PubMed, Web Science, Scopus for studies published between inception Jan 1, 2024, identifying 3976 papers. Of these, 58 quantitative met our inclusion criteria were included this systematic review. These papers explored 125 scenarios considered various pathways by which policies can affect health. Pathways addressing air quality, physical activity, dietary changes found substantial co-benefits, with a median mortality reduction 1·5%. National or sub-national showed that would yield local quality benefits, independently actions taken neighbouring countries. varied sector, decarbonisation levers, modelling approach, location. Studies cost-benefit analysis estimated monetised benefits outweighed costs implementing policies. This review highlights need standardised framework assess compare impacts across sectors confirms achieving goals supports far-reaching public TRANSLATION: For French translation abstract see Supplementary Materials section.
