Severe maternal outcome (SMO) encompasses women who survive life-threatening conditions either by chance or due to treatment quality, die. This concept assumes that severe morbidity predicts mortality risk, enabling the analysis of risk factors for outcomes and improving our understanding on causes death. study aims determine incidence SMO its leading in East Gojjam during a period regional conflict. A prospective follow-up was conducted at Debre Markos Comprehensive Specialized Hospital from July 1, 2023, February 30, 2024. Cholestasis of pregnancy (CP), or intrahepatic CP (ICP), represents a condition peculiar to pregnancy, marked by impaired bile acid flow and consequent accumulation in the maternal bloodstream. Primarily emerging third trimester, is linked with considerable risks both mother fetus, including heightened incidences preterm birth, fetal distress, stillbirth, alongside complications such as intense pruritus liver dysfunction. Despite its clinical significance, etiology CP, which involves genetic, hormonal, environmental factors, remains partially understood. This comprehensive review delves into physiology pathophysiology outlines manifestations diagnostic criteria, discusses associated complications. Furthermore, it evaluates current management strategies, prognostic implications, potential long-term effects on child health. It also explores future research directions, emphasizing need for advancements understanding developing novel therapeutic interventions, improving risk stratification models. By offering thorough overview this aims enhance awareness, guide practices, identify areas requiring further investigation, ultimately contributing better health outcomes affected women their babies.
