This phenomenological study examines the characteristics that contribute to development of resiliency in veterans Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring (OEF) who experienced combat-related amputations. The project comprised recorded semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 10 OIF OEF veteran male amputees. We transcribed analyzed resulting data yielding six emergent themes: grief, will live fight, amputation adjustment issues, social support as a protective factor, coping skills, posttraumatic growth. study’s results body knowledge on resiliency, which may improve therapeutic interventions help overcome traumatic events, such amputation.

Abstract Background Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is a positive psychological consequence of trauma. The aims this study were to investigate whether combat injury was associated with deployment-related PTG in cohort UK military personnel who deployed Afghanistan, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression pain mediate relationship. Methods 521 physically injured ( n = 138 amputation; 383 non-amputation injury) 514 frequency-matched uninjured completed questionnaires including the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (DPTGI). DPTGI scores categorised into tertiles of: no/low (score 0–20), moderate 21–34) or large (35–63) degree PTG. Analysis using generalised structural equation modelling.
