We read with great interest the article by Machado et al. By employing a five-year longitudinal design, study highlights substantial impact SB PA strength, offering solid foundation for public health interventions. However, we identified several areas where design analysis could be further refined to enhance its scientific rigour practical applicability. The loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, known as sarcopenia, is prevalent in older adults linked to an increased risk disability, frailty, early mortality. Muscle health crucial for the functionality independence adults. As aging population continuously grows, finding cost-effective strategies preventing treating sarcopenia important public priority. While nutrition recognized a key factor development its role condition still under investigation. In recent decades, nutritional research has shifted from focus on individual nutrients or healthy foods examining combination dietary patterns, along with their potential synergistic antagonistic effects. A balanced diet regular participation physical activity are essential maintaining musculoskeletal health. One eating patterns greatest evidence multiple benefits Mediterranean diet, which also been positive effects function observational studies. However, there lack intervention This review explores updated longitudinal prospective studies associations between adherence order promote preventive aging.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition linked to sarcopenia, syndrome characterized by loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, affecting quarter CKD patients globally. Sarcopenia has multiple paths through which it can worsen morbidity mortality as well decrease the quality life in CKD, including systemic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, metabolic changes, dysbiosis gut microbiota. There regional variation criteria set for diagnosis, with two main groups being European Working Group on Older People Asian Sarcopenia. Management regimes such nutritional optimization, vitamin D, exercise, correction acidosis, modulation microbiota constitute effective intervention strategies. Emerging therapeutic options include anabolic agents, myostatin inhibitors, anti-inflammatory treatment options. Future advances genomics, proteomics, personalized medicine will open up new avenues addressing complex pathophysiology sarcopenia. Hence, comprehensive multidisciplinary approach focused specific needs each patient be vital reducing effects sarcopenia improving situation people CKD.

A balanced diet and regular physical activity are essential for maintaining musculoskeletal health. Key nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, protein especially important preventing falls fractures. While the benefits of these well-established, other dietary components have not been studied extensively. For instance, vegetables, which rich in vital muscle bone health, play a crucial role Over recent decades, great emphasis has given to combinations foods patterns that may synergistic or antagonistic effects. Despite challenges researching impact nutrition on health due extensive heterogeneity results, healthcare professionals should continue promote healthy eating activity, principles be emphasized public initiatives. Ultimately, sufficient diet, abundant plant-based low processed discretionary foods, along with consistent remains most effective strategy prevention issues. Background: Plant-based diets are associated with various health benefits; however, their impact on physical performance in aging populations remains unclear. Objectives: To investigate the associations between adherence to plant-based and performance, focusing potential protective effects against age-related declines function. Methods: Data were obtained from men women aged 40 years or older Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) (mean ± SD age: 68 13 at first dietary visit; n = 1389). Dietary intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). diets, calculated 18 groups, categorized as overall (PDI), healthful (hPDI), unhealthful (uPDI), tertiles across visits analyzed. Multivariable linear mixed-effects models used examine association repeated measurements three outcomes—Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), grip strength (kg), gait speed (m/s)—and each diet. Results: In fully adjusted models, SPPB significantly both hPDI uPDI, but not PDI. For hPDI, intermediate tertile showed greatest benefit, scores 0.5 points higher (βT2vs.T1 0.50, 95% CI: 0.30–0.70, p < 0.001) over follow-up period. contrast, for 0.27-point lower score seen (βT3vs.T1 −0.27, −0.48 −0.07, 0.009). Longitudinally, positively 1.14, 0.24–2.05, 0.0013). Similar results observed adults ≥65 years. Conclusions: Adherence may benefit body function muscle strength, while uPDI appears have adverse effects. This suggests that quality foods is essential maintaining functional well-being adults. Further research needed confirm these findings, explore underlying mechanisms, identify strategies optimize patterns populations.
