Background Sleep disorders are common among older adults and have a bidirectional impact on their emotional well-being. While some studies suggest that internet use may offer mental health benefits to this population, the relationship between sleep outcomes remains underexplored. Objective This study investigates association (including frequency) quality duration in middle-aged Chinese adults. Methods A longitudinal analysis was conducted using China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study data from 2015 2018. assessed item Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, categorized as “good” (<1 day; reference), “fair” (1-4 days), or “poor” (5-7 days). classified short (<6 hours), medium (6-9 hours; long (>9 hours). Adjusted multinomial logistic regressions were used examine associations frequency 2018, controlling age, sex, residence, diseases, smoking, drinking, napping time further exploring sex age group variations. Results The baseline included 18,460 participants aged 45 years older, with 1272 (6.9%) users, 8825 (48.1%) had fair poor sleep, 6750 (37.2%) abnormal duration. Internet particularly those who it almost daily, less likely report (relative risk [RR] 0.71, 95% CI 0.54-0.94) longer (RR 0.22, 0.11-0.44) than nonusers. In analysis, users significantly reduced of 0.66, 0.51-0.86) 0.60, 0.44-0.81), well 0.73, 0.53-1.00) 0.39, 0.21-0.72) during follow-up period These remained significant daily 0.32, 0.15-0.69). Subgroup analyses by revealed positive quality, stronger effect female (poor sleep: RR 0.57, 0.36-0.89) male 0.61, 0.40-0.92) participants. only showing 0.30, 0.11-0.78). subgroup most 45- 59-year group, results consistent overall findings. Conclusions suggests is associated problems findings indicate moderate, regular engagement—such use—may promote better population.

Abstract Background Research increasingly demonstrates a positive association between Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and conduct problems among adolescents. However, longitudinal data are limited, the mediating mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to examine predictive effect of IGD on explore role impaired sleep quality. Method A cohort 20,137 Chinese seventh- tenth-grade students was recruited assessed at three time points: November 2020 (T1), 2021 (T2), 2022 (T3). IGD, problems, quality were measured using Scale Short Form, Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, respectively. Mediation analyses conducted evaluate direct indirect with subgroup based sex developmental stage. Results found be an independent risk factor for both cross-sectionally longitudinally. Impaired partially mediated relationship accounting approximately 17.3% total effect. Subgroup revealed that mediation more pronounced in early adolescents varied by sex, stronger boys. Conclusions These findings highlight need comprehensive interventions targeting quality, tailored specific sexes stages, effectively reduce problems.
