Raising to conformity without strictness: is it achievable?

Background
The
prevailing
belief
that
parental
strictness
is
optimal
for
children
not
uniformly
supported
by
recent
research.
Contrary
to
the
traditional
notion
necessary
ensure
children’s
conformity
social
norms,
contemporary
studies
question
its
necessity.
This
study
aims
analyze
how
two
main
parenting
dimensions,
warmth
and
strictness,
are
related
psychosocial
adjustment
of
children.
Method
A
sample
1,224
Spanish
adolescents
young
adults
was
examined,
divided
into
groups:
aged
12–18
years
(51.14%)
19–35
(48.86%).
Adolescent
participants
were
recruited
from
high
schools
while
university
courses.
Children
(i.e.,
adolescent
adult
offspring)
responded
an
online
questionnaire
included
all
measures:
dimensions
(warmth
strictness)
criteria
(emotional
self-concept,
self-esteem,
competence,
conformity).
Power
analyses
(
a
priori
sensitivity
analyses)
applied
sufficient
sizes
achieve
adequate
power.
Cohen’s
d
values
correlation
multiple
linear
regression
performed.
Beta
confidence
intervals
analyzed
relate
sex
age
conformity.
Results
statistical
analysis
plainly
indicated
positively
associated
with
child
adjustment,
including
relationship
consistent
across
both
adults.
Conversely,
either
negatively
or
significantly
these
criteria.
Conclusion
clearly
suggests
that,
completely
contrary
expectations
strict
might
be
need
component
achieving
warmth,
rather
than
more
effective
in
promoting
adjustment.

Objective:
This
study
aims
to
analyze

relationship

parenting
styles,

authoritative,
indulgent,
authoritarian,

neglectful,

adjustment,

Z

Z)
individuals.

Chinese
individuals,
736
young
adults
(born
2003-2005)

adolescents

multivariate

design

of
child
adjustment
(aggression,
five
dimensions

antisocial
tendency
during
adolescence,

Results:
Children
from
authoritarian
homes
reported
higher
levels
worst
scores
in
competence.
By
contrast,
optimal
results
consistently
associated
with
warm
(i.e.,
authoritative
indulgent).
Conclusions:
Parental
warmth
beneficial
for
Gen
Z,
including
both
adolescent
cohorts.
present
findings
seriously
questioned
that
parenting,
which
has
often
been
related
positive
outcomes-particularly
educational
success-is
adjustment.
