Abstract Pathogenic microorganisms contaminating potable water are a serious quality concern because they have severe consequences for human and environmental health. Managing contamination requires the availability of fast highly sensitive point‐of‐use detection systems responsive to wide concentration range. In present work, this goal is achieved by realizing cascade‐structured biosensor that exploits innovative stimuli‐responsive materials such as gold nanorods (AuNRs) photosensitive nematic liquid crystals (NLCs). The cascade structure fabricated interfacing glass substrate in back‐to‐front arrangement, hosting an array bioactivated AuNRs NLC cell. integrates microfluidic channels, allowing direct sampling analysis reduced volumes with high sensitivity. combines same device two independent optical transducers: bioactive (plasmonic biosensor), refractive index alterations, cell detects presence pathogens responding light intensity variations. plasmonic performs exceptionally well very low concentrations bacteria. contrast, works high‐concentration bacteria, thus providing cascade‐like system able detect bacteria range from 10 9 CFU mL −1 .

Abstract Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs), a class of photonic materials with multi‐stimulus response and tunable bandgaps (PBGs), exhibit the characteristics selective circularly polarized reflection properties due to helical assembly supramolecules. To enhance their practical applicability, CLCs can be uniformly dispersed as microdroplets within polymer matrices, forming cholesteric (PDCLCs). This composite system not only provides essential mechanical stability but also enables enhanced multimodal responses through matrix interactions. PDCLC have been widely used in fields dynamic displays, intelligent sensors, anti‐counterfeiting systems optical encryption devices. review comprehensively surveys fundamental properties, preparation methods, field‐responsive behaviors major applications PDCLCs. Furthermore, current challenges future developments PDCLCs are prospected further promote scientific research application materials.
