Recently, stimuli-responsive materials have attracted great attention, while most of them respond to single or two stimuli. Thus, it is essential design multifunctional and develop their applications. The strategy that constructing high-dimensional coordination polymers facilitates the application scope a viologen-based photochromic system put forward confirmed for first time. Herein, novel multistimuli-responsive Zn-MOF with two-dimensional framework has been successfully designed synthesized. Complex 1 exhibits chromic behavior under variety external stimuli such as 365 nm UV, X-rays, heat, electricity, ethylamine. More interestingly, crystal state complex displays dual fluorescence room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emission emits yellow afterglow when turning off UV lamp. In addition, Eu(III)-functionalized hybrids, Eu3+@Zn-MOF, were prepared by coordinated postsynthetic modification based on viologen complexes sample Eu3+@Zn-MOF inherits characteristics gives distinctive europium ions. Based multicolor switching possible practical utilization was developed in fields inkless, erasable print media, electrochromic information tag printing, encryption, anticounterfeiting.

The development of new responsive smart materials has been highly desirable in the recent decade due to growing demand our daily life, and extended viologen-based coordination polymers are regarded as proper promising candidates for stimuli-responsive study. A tri(pyridinyl)pyridine Kagome dual (kgd) topological polymer, [Mn3Cl4(tpptb)2]·Cl2·(H2O)2, (tpptb = N,N',N″-tri(3-carboxybenzyl)-2,4,6-tri(pyridinium-4-yl)pyridine; 1) solvothermally synthesized, which can selectively respond soft X-ray Al-Kα (λ 8.357 Å) irradiation but not UV light hard X-rays λ < 1.5418 Å at room temperature. Appealingly, 1 is very sensitive convenient visual detection various volatile amine vapors, especially ethylamine vapors a low concentration 100 ppm, vapochromic sample be recovered after exposure air sequence amines vapochromism could rationalized by combined consideration vapor pressure, molecular size, electron-donor ability molecules well void spaces 1. In addition, exhibits an obvious hydrochromic transformation upon heating anhydrous atmosphere. Combined XPS EPR confirmed that these physical chemical stimuli cause electron transfer from electron-rich groups quaternary nitrogen atoms ligand generate charge-separated radicals, leading X-ray-induced photochromic selective behavior Such indicates it will become convenient, recyclable, practical multifunctional material environmental sensing. These results provide effective avenue rational design synthesis chromic potential use sensing devices.

In this work, by using two kinds of viologen ligands three POM-based Compounds were obtained under hydrothermal conditions, namely [AgI (bmypd)0.5 (β-Mo8 O26 )0.5 ] (1) (bmypd ⋅ 2Cl=1,1'-[Biphenyl-4,4'-bis(methylene)]bis(4,4'-bipyridyinium)dichloride), [AgI2 (bypy)4 (HSiW12 O40 )2 14H2 O (2) and (bypy)(γ-Mo8 (3) (bypy⋅Cl=1-Benzyl-4,4'-bipyridyinium chloride). The structures characterized Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), photoelectron (XPS) single crystal diffraction. 1-3 show excellent photochromic ability with fast photoresponse the irradiation ultraviolet light different degrees color changes. A one-dimensional Cd(II) chain coordination polymer constructed by an electron-deficient viologen-anchored carboxylate ligand was successfully synthesized. Owing to the favorable stimuli-chromic properties of viologen, title compound shows reversible photochromism, thermochromism, electrochromism, and naked-eye-detectable differentiable vapochromic response different volatile amines. The chromic behaviors it are ascribed formation viologen radicals triggered external stimuli. And differentiated amines is attributed size effect as well steric hindrance forming α/β Cv-H···Namines interactions unit further affect occurrence electron transfer. Such all-in-one crystalline material might have more practical applications in photoelectric, erasable inkless printing, light amine detection fields.
