Application of organic fertilizers is an important strategy for sustainable agriculture. The biological source determines their specific functional characteristics, but few studies have systematically examined these functions or assessed health risk to soil ecology. To fill this gap, we analyzed 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing data from 637 samples amended with plant- and animal-derived (hereafter plant animal fertilizers). Results showed that increased the diversity microbiome, while maintained stability microbial community. Microcosm experiments verified were beneficial root development carbon cycle pathways, enriched nitrogen pathways. Compared fertilizers, harbored a lower abundance factors such as antibiotic resistance genes viruses. Consequently, might be more suitable long-term application in This work provides guide fertilizer selection perspective microecology promotes agriculture.IMPORTANCEThis study valuable guidance use agricultural production microbiome ecological risk.

Agricultural soil is related to food security and human health, antibiotics heavy metals (HMs), as two typical pollutants, possess a high coexistence rate in the environmental medium, which extremely prone inducing antibiotic-HMs combined pollution. Recently, frequent activities have led more prominent antibiotics-HMs contamination agricultural soils, especially production spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), metal (MRGs), resistant bacteria (ARB), complexes (AMCs), seriously threaten ecology health. This review describes main sources (Intrinsic manmade sources), composite mechanisms (co-selective resistance, oxidative stress, Joint toxicity mechanism), fate potential risks (soil ecological health risks) HMs soils. Finally, current effective source blocking, transmission control, attenuation strategies are classified for discussion, such application additives barrier materials, well plant animal remediation bioremediation, etc., pointing out that future research should focus on whole chain process "source-process-terminal", intending provide theoretical basis decision-making reference research.

Abstract Despite advances in dispersal mechanisms and risk assessment of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), how plants influence ARG contamination agricultural soils remains underexplored. Here, the impacts plant species diversity on ARGs mobile genetic elements (MGEs) three are comprehensively investigated a pot experiment. The results indicate that increased reduces MGEs abundance by 19.2%–51.2%, whereas exhibit inconsistent soil‐dependent effects. Potential bacterial hosts harboring abundant have greater relative than nonhosts, both their richness cumulative reduced diversity. Notably, inhibited present other hosts. enriched compounds root exudates due to play more important role metabolic network contribute rebalancing potential nonhosts. An independent test using pure organics reveals higher resource diversity, resulting from mobility high‐risk ARGs. This study highlights resource‐mediated mitigation risks posed indicates ensuring is promising strategy for controlling agroecosystems.

Pesticides and antibiotics are believed to increase the incidence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) virulence factor (VFGs), constituting a serious threat global health. However, impact this combined pollution on microbiome that related ARGs VFGs soil–plant–animal systems remain unknown. In study, 60-day microcosm experiment was conducted reveal effects zinc thiazole (ZT) oxytetracycline (OTC) microbial communities, resistomes, factors in soil, earthworm gut, phyllosphere samples using metagenomics. ZT exposure perturbed communities nutrient metabolism increased abundance gut. Combined changed profiles by decreasing diversity phyllosphere. Host-tracking analysis identified some genera, such as Citrobacter Aeromonas, frequent hosts Notably, co-occurrence patterns MGEs were observed metagenome-assembled contigs. More importantly, markedly potentially drug-resistant pathogens Acinetobacter soli junii Overall, study expands our current understanding spread under pollutant-induced stress associated health risks.

Conversion from natural lands to cropland, primarily driven by agricultural expansion, could significantly alter soil microbiome worldwide; however, influences of forest-to-cropland conversion on microbial hierarchical interactions and ecosystem multifunctionality have not been fully understood. Here, we examined the effects intratrophic cross-trophic further disclosed their underlying drivers at a national scale, using Illumina sequencing combined with high-throughput quantitative PCR techniques. The changed structure (including prokaryotic, fungal, protistan communities) while it did affect its alpha diversity. Both intrakingdom interkingdom networks revealed that interaction patterns generally tended be more modular resist environmental disturbance introduced conversion, but this was insufficient for maintain stability; hence, predation behaviors were still disturbed under such conversion. Moreover, key clusters declined during mainly because increased total phosphorus level, drove great degradation (by 207%) in cropland soils. Overall, these findings comprehensively implied negative agroecosystem, multifunctionality.

Our understanding of the role urbanization has in augmenting invasive species that carry human bacterial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated gut communities, antibiotic genes (ARGs) potential antibiotic-resistant giant African snails (Achatina fulica) collected across an gradient Xiamen, China (n = 108). There was a lack correlation between microbial profiles soils their habitats, resistome human-associated bacteria were significantly higher than those native as well soils. We observed high diversity (601 ARG subtypes) abundance (1.5 copies per 16S rRNA gene) snail resistome. Moreover, more urban areas had greater high-risk ARGs (e.g., ESKAPE pathogens). highlight impacted microbiomes resistomes these snails, indicating they harbor biological contaminants such This study advances our effect on AMR problematic should help combat risks associated with under One Health framework.

Pesticides promote the stable development of intensive global agriculture. Nevertheless, their residues in soil can cause ecological and human health risks. Glyphosate is a popular herbicide generally thought to be ecologically safe nontoxic, but this conclusion has been questioned. Herein, we investigated interaction among fauna (Enchytraeus crypticus) exposed glyphosate found that induced oxidative stress detoxification responses E. crypticus disturbed lipid metabolism digestive systems. We further demonstrated disordered gut microbiota increased abundance resistance determinants with significant Empirical tests structural equation models were then used confirm could generate reactive oxygen species, indirectly interfering microbiota. Our study provides important implications for deciphering mechanisms ecotoxicity pesticides under challenge worldwide pesticide contamination.
