In contrast to numerous studies on oxygen species, the interaction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with oxides is also critical catalytic reaction but has hardly been considered. Herein, we develop a highly efficient Pt atom doped spinel CoMn2O4 (Pt-CoMn) for oxidation toluene at low temperature, and conversion rate increased by 18.3 times (129.7 versus 7.1 × 10–11 mol/(m2·s)) 160 °C compared that CoMn2O4. Detailed characterizations density functional theory calculations reveal local electron environment Co sites changed after doping, formed electron-deficient in turn strengthen toluene. Adsorbed will react lattice Pt-CoMn CoMn catalysts convert into benzoate intermediates, consumption closely related activation gaseous oxygen. Significantly, abundant bulk defects help open channel spinel, which acts as an pump promote transformation surface lower temperatures, thus accelerating intermediates CO2 enhancing low-temperature combustion developed here emphasizes regulation VOCs adsorption strength processes adjusting environment, provide new guidance design oxide oxidation.
